Neotheocons no longer even pretend to tell the truth |
|
They know the media won't call them on even the most blatant lies, much less check to verify their more subtle assertions.
So, hourly we are barraged by outright lies on Social Security, on Terri Schiavo's condition, on Iraq . . . on every subject in public circulation.
We MUST do something to restore at least a semblance of a journalistic presence in American public life.

1. If you have a suggestion on how... |

To restore that balance, I am all ears. Quite frankly, I view the media now in the same way I view a child having a blue tantrum: I sure cannot wait for whatever is wrong with them to pass.

2. one of the "usual suspect" remedies |
|
is restoration of the Fairness Doctrine
I think the public needs to reassert ownership of the airwaves (including satellite transmissions) and the right-of-ways for cable and fiber optics.
The issue also touches on campaign finance. In the realm of politics, what constitutes free speech versus publicly subsidized speech versus coercion versus bribery?

While I would love to the The Fairness Doctrine return in full force, or perhaps in a force fuller than before it was shut down, I do not see that happening with this congress.
Moreover, I don't see it happening until some real campaign finance reform is passed and enforced vigorously.

5. My opinion is that campaign finance reform is the lynchpin |
|
of most of our ills.
The other key is taxing churches.

7. Well, that taxing churches thing... |
|
That is a real dual-edged sword. There are a lot of churches out there that are just churches, not slightly-obscured lobbying groups. They do good things for people, too. Tax them and they are going to be in real trouble. Some of them will go away, unable to make the nut. That will leave the big mega-churches with their political arms still there and cranking out the agenda. They don't have finfncial constraints.
I do think that if churches are shown to be violating the law, they should face sacrifices and sanctions. That said, not all churches are in violation.

8. when you do good things for people, you have a basis for |
|
applying for nonprofit status, based on teh merits of your charitable or altruistic mission.
Leave religion, mythology, superstition, cultism and the like out of it.
Churches are businesses. Tax them.

9. Tax the revenue producing property of the church. I really don't |
|
think anyone would have a problem with this. If a person "tithes" to a church and is given a place to live, that should be rent.

12. Introduce federal control to satellite? |
|
over my dead body.
I pay for every single channel on there, and I don't want the federal government, especially in its current condition, dictating content and standards.

I'm sorry for all the family members involved. This is an awful situation.
It has gotten absurd though.

Aaaaah waaaah.
Then, Easter Sunday, the Pope tryed to speak, but made undistinguishable sounds, perhaps...aaaaah waaaaaah. Everytime the MSM ran that story that was all I could think of, him saying, aaaaaah waaaah. BTW, before any zealots want to condem me for my impure thoughts, let me remind you of the HATE that has come from the Pope's mouth before he was stricken. Aaaaaaah waaaaaah!!!!!!!!
Aaaaaaaaaaaah waaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!
