But that might be just wishful thinking, as far as the "least of the evils" goes.

to consider McCain a lesser evil. Besides, in 08 isn't he about 74 years old?

10. Will millions of cat lovers vote for Frist? |

Seriously, I think that issue will definitely hurt him, even with Republican cat lovers.

7. Jethro Jeb Bush will be their nominee |
|
Jethro Jeb Bush used the Schiavo situation for one reason only - to appeal to the Christian base in the red states to get their support for a run in 2008. Rudy G. would be amusing, but the republicans have already turned on him. Condi Rice is Gay, so she won't be supported by the homophobic GOP. It's going to be Jeb. And this country will be in BIG trouble if he wins in 2008. The scary thing is - this country is dumb enough to elect another republican to the White House AND to put more republicans in Congress.

9. just like the dems, it's WIDE open |
|
The logical candidates are probably to moderate to win the nomination and there's alot of psychotic candidates that could cancel each other out. I think it comes down to who "the money" wants to win. Just like GW won because the money decided he should be president.

12. There's a lot of political ambition... |
|
... in that list, but I think we'll see someone that's not on it. Not entirely sure who, but it's likely to be a current or recent governor. I think Texas has shot its wad for the foreseeable future, and Perry seems determined to hang onto his job. Jebbie, I think, will be tainted by his big brother.
My guess is that the Repugs will, after the Dole disaster, reach back to a Reaganite, or someone who exudes the confidence of a Reagan.
There are also political dues to be paid--and Ohio was crucial in Bush's win in 2004, so Robert Taft can't be ruled out.
Mark Sanford of South Carolina is another possibility.

The GOP base loves this guy.
Senator Allen would be another possibility, in addition to Governor Ehrlich of Maryland.
Guiliani and McCain would never survive the primary.

I live in Maryland, he invented the flush tax, which raised the sewage fees to pay for cleaning up the Chesapeake, he believes in flat taxes, he would continue George's method of giving the rich a free ride, while balancing the cost of governing on the backs of the poor. The cost of our tags went from $75.00 to $125.00, this is to fix up our roads, I agree with these two goals I don't agree in flat taxes to do it.

17. Guiliani and McCain won't be nominated |
|
Problems for both of these guys: --Guiliani: Does anybody really believe that a pro-choice, pro-stem cell research and pro-gun control New Yorker who has moderate views on gay marriage will be the Republican nominee? In a general election, he would garner a lot of moderate swing voters but the GOP social conservative base wouldn't show up for him. I think he could be on a Vice Presidential short list though.
--McCain: I don't believe that the GOP party establishment trusts him. He's called a "maverick" for a reason--he bucks the party establishment a lot. He will be 72 in 2008, and he has had some health problems. I believe that he will win the New Hampshire primary (like 2000), but will once again struggle with Southern Republicans. More likely a Vice Presidential candidate.
Frist is more likely the nominee, mainly because he is a pawn of the party establishment and he panders to the religious right. He reminds me of a younger version of Bob Dole, minus the occasionally funny comments. He is also one of the only Republicans that Hillary can beat in a national election.
