AARP commercial about social security
Have you seen it? It's been running a day or two here where I live (Seattle area)and I think it's a perfect way to sum up the situation.
It looks like a home improvement commercial where the homeowner has a stopped up sink. The contractor ends up tearing the place down. So far I've only seen it on cable channels, not on any of the networks.

4. So did I over their support of Dubya's Medicare Rx drug bill. BUT AARP is
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 11:09 AM by flpoljunkie
doing a great job, with this ad and terrific full page ads in newspapers, letting folks know that Bush's privatization plan for Social Security will only make Social Security less secure!

I salute AARP for trying to stop Dubya's plan, to destroy the "security" in Social Security, in it's tracks.

8. So Did I---For The Same Reason
And I wonder if this is merely an attempt to regain lost membership. I mean look at the timing, Boy George's plan is already on the ropes. It's not like AARP is leading the opposition.

11. when the word came out that the Swifties were going to smear AARP,
I posted my concerns at their web site. It went something like - you cannot allow these attacks to go unanswered. Look at the energy Kerry used trying to catch up.

Even though my membership is paid up, I just sent the another check earmarked for the social security campaign.

I'm glad someone there is awake.

7. Then you get the benefit of it's kick ass commercial for free, like me!
It's a two-fer! Bush's harebrained scheme to kill social security gets slammed, and I get to contribute to the next group that tells the truth about Bush.

2. It's on networks too
Glad they're using the phrase 'dismantle Social Security. I was thinking the analogy of demoing the house because the sink is blocked is great.

It is pretty good.

Another recent one I like is the commercial by Move-On about judges and how the republicans want to remove the filibuster, it shows a rubber stamp being used on all of Bush's nominees and at the end has Cheney wearing a crown, and then asks, "Who made Cheney King?"

9. Print ad in NEWSWEEK, as well
It's a great concept.

I dropped my membership over Medicare, too, but I'm glad they're fighting this.

12. It's a GREAT ad!
Social Security is an arcane and hard to understand topic for most people. The house demolition is a perfect and simple to understand symbol for the radical, stupid and destructive nature of the Bush Administration's proposed "fix" of the SS problems.

It's also very attention-getting and visually arresting. Thumbs up to whoever came up with the idea.

13. Saw it last night. It was great.
They have messed with a very powerful demographic this time, the baby boomers and their parents. They are seriously pissed off with His Fraudulency this time. The commercial is very effective, let's hope it gets played continuously in every state in the union and on regular channels not just cable.

I hope they've got a print ad out there too, and a series of equally effective commercials.
