Jeb offered no condolences to Michael Schaivo
Here's his statement:

“After an extraordinarily difficult and tragic journey, Terri Schiavo is at rest. Columba and I offer our condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Schindler, Bobby Schindler, Suzanne Vitadamo and to all those who offered their prayers and support to Terri’s family over these past weeks, months and years. These prayers were not in vain.

“Many across our state and around the world are deeply grieved by the way Terri died. I feel that grief very sharply as well. I remain convinced, however, that Terri’s death is a window through which we can see the many issues left unresolved in our families and in our society. For that, we can be thankful for all that the life of Terri Schiavo has taught us.

“I still firmly believe that human life is a gift and a mystery, and that its mystery is most evident at its beginning and ending. May all of us whose hearts were moved during the life of Terri Schiavo grow in wisdom at its ending.”

Not a word about the husband who fought against the biggest assemblage of religious extremists ever assembled on a single issue to see to it that his wife's wishes would be respected.

Jeb, you had an opportunity to offer some measure of class, decency, and healing and you fucking blew it. What a surprise.

Fuck you, Jeb.

But he's just a mean son of a bitch, and he does shit like this because he can.

11. You bet me to it
Instead of the word class being associated with any of the Bushies, the word 'crass' out to be permanently affixed to their name.

3. Still pandering, eh, Jebbie?
Not surprised.

The Bushes lack any class at all.

5. I think I heard George W. say... condolences to her "families."
I'm pretty sure he used the plural.

Whack jobs, the both of them.

12. Yes. I was wondering if he was referring to the wingnut protesters as
another family. That would make Randall Terry her uncle or something. ;)

Poor girl. I am glad she is finally at peace. If only her parents had cared about the quality of her life before her tragic illness instead of after. She might actually have had a shot.

14. Let's not second guess her parents. Not now.
OK, think what you will, but I'm not going to pin her bulimia on her parents. I'm sure they "cared about her quality of life before her tragic illness;" as a parent, myself, I know it's the hardest job a human being can have, and you can never get it exactly right no matter how hard you try.

I hope I'm not sounding too self-righteous about it, but I'm seeing a lot of "blame her horrid parents" talk 'round DU, and frankly it reminds me more than a little bit of the tendency at FR or LGF to assume the worst about Michael Schaivo.

(Didn't mean to give you a hard time about it, just felt like venting a bit.)

Selling that list of donors and that horrible video of a girl who literally died to be pretty is monstorous. Lying about the precepts of their religion to get their way is revolting. Their foundation has been investigated for misappropriation of funds. It was on MSNBC yesterday that the lawyers donated their time and that other legal expenses were paid by Right to Livfe. They "claim " the money was for legal expenses and Terri's care. Terri was being cared for by the Hospice for free and the rest of her medical was paid for by medicare. What are they really doing with the money?

18. Of course I'm more sympathetic to the husband, and I'm well aware
of the repulsive things the Schindlers have done. (& you neglected to mention their use of domestic terrorist Randall Terry). Bring it all up, pound away, I'm cool with that.

But condemning the Schindlers for their daughter's bulimia? I ain't going there.

I would like to see this issue discussed, however. Maybe when the corporate media gets done with the circus clowns, someone will get assigned that story and shed some light. Perhaps someone's life will be saved as a result.

22. I have no idea what caused her Bulimia. I tend to think society.
Unfortunately we are image obsessed, and by our standards, she was a much prettier girl when she was thin. Poor girl. This reminds me of Karen Carpenter.

17. These are people who have spread blatant lies and are willing to destroy
our Constitution to "win" over their son-in-law. If I am slamming them now, it is because I am tired of their immoral and selfish behavior.

19. Please note: I'm talking about blaming the parents for the bulimia
I think that's uncalled for, not to mention extremely counterproductive.

Bash 'em all you want for their multitude of actual, documented sins if you like.

Hell, i'll mention another that hasn't been brought up in this thread: their disgusting appeal to Michael yesterday: "You have children. Let us have OUR child back."

Uh, guys? How about your two surviving children? Don't they count?

25. I actually didn't say anything about bulimia at all. I think you put that
meaning there. I meant it more generally and it was an angry outburst. I get those occasionally, especially with selfish people like the Schindlers.

In regard to bulimia, I have known bulimics, usually without knowing they were bulimic. Bulimics get very good at hiding what they do. They are also hard to help because they don't think anything is wrong. I do not blame her parents for the bulimia, although a friend of mine who is a PhD shrink insists that bulimia is about the mother. I am sure there are other opinions out there.

I just dislike people who can't see that their daughter is unhappy before she is ill, and then later prop her vegetative body up to make themselves feel better. And yes, I am assuming there were signs. In my experience, there are always signs, especially if you love someone.

15. Personally, I think the media' s treatment of
Michael Schiavo has been horrendous, unfair and one sided. When you don't have the facts or the law on your side, you have to get down in the gutter to argue your position with trash talk and defamation!

21. Definitely
Ron Reagan just posed the radical hypothetical that if Michael Schiavo is telling the truth, then doing anything differently than he did would have been wrong. Monica Crowley freaked out, interrupted him, shrieked about the courts, blahblahblah...

24. Michael Schiavo needs to sue those scummy corporate mediots.
For all the times they aired BS, completely unbalanced claims about foul play? Not that I don't want CNN, Faux and the rest bled dry but mostly I want them to think twice the next time they air inflammatory nonsense that could get someone killed.
