Texas lawmakers and officials said Thursday the state is not getting its fair share of federal funding to guard against terrorist attacks and they hope proposed legislation will fix that.

U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, said Texas ranks last in terms of homeland security dollars per capita. McCaul said Wyoming gets $38 per person while Texas receive $5 per person. "Texas deserves more funding to protect itself," he said.

Cornyn's proposed legislation is guided by the Sept. 11 commission's recommendations that homeland security assistance should be based on an assessment of risks and vulnerabilities

"If you think gasoline prices are high now, just wait for some disruption of the petrochemicals and gasoline and jet fuel that is transported in and around the Port of Houston," Cornyn said.

1. Just wanted to remind everyone
HE WON WITH NO-ONE RUNNING AGAINST HIM.

So we cant complain now. If we want to take back some of these seats, the first thing we do is find candidates to run against them. I told my neighbor that if there were races like this next time then I would run.

This was one of the DeLay districts.

John Cornyn: The senator from Texas issued a statement in which he advocated a constitutional ban on gay marriage with the following logic: "It does not affect your daily life very much if your neighbor marries a box turtle. But that does not mean it is right. . . . Now you must raise your children up in a world where that union of man and box turtle is on the same legal footing as man and wife."

2. Isn't Homeland Security an unfunded mandate?
I don't remember.
What about NYC? They've been hit twice.
Compare that with Austin.

3. TX has mismanaged their funds...lawn mower drag races!!
McCaul and Cornyn need to stick their oil blackmailing up their collective asses.

I'd say an audit request should be done before ANY extra $$ is handed out to TX <I feel that way and I LIVE here>..take a look:

http://www.wreg.com/Global/story.asp?S=2783139

An audit finds some homeland security money was improperly spent in Texas. The report examined the use of the state's nearly 600 (m) million in anti-terrorism funds.

It found one jurisdiction used the money to buy a trailer used to haul lawn mowers to "lawn mower drag races." The report also found that one county bought radios and other communication equipment from a company owned by a county commissioner.

The audit's findings mirror some problems identified in a September report by The Dallas Morning News. The newspaper found some cities were using their anti-terror money to buy equipment for traffic stops, drug probes and even community festivals.

Auditors in Texas are forwarding the case to a special investigation unit.
