Praise be to Jebus: Sen. Brownback Weighs 2008 White House Bid
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&e=2&u=/ap/20050401/ap_on_el_ge/brownback2008

WASHINGTON - Add another name to the list of potential 2008 presidential candidates: Sen. Sam Brownback (news, bio, voting record). The Kansas Republican, little known outside his home state, is using a network of social conservatives and Christian activists to raise his profile in Iowa and New Hampshire, two states critical to White House hopefuls.

In an interview Thursday, Brownback said he has not made a formal decision on whether to run and would not give a timetable on when he would decide.

"I'm exploring the options," Brownback said. "There's a lot of interest in the topics that I've been pushing for some time."

Brownback, 48, is also talking strategy with Chuck Hurley, a former Iowa state legislator who is president of the Iowa Family Policy Center, a conservative advocacy group. Brownback and Hurley were college and law school classmates.

3. If you could see
the way those kids were NOT accepted in that family your hair would curl. It was a purely political move. Things may have changed, even the Brownbacks have small, little black hearts but when they first brought these kids home it was a very sad thing.

7. Everywhere they went
the Brownbacks would all be walking and talking together and the two adopted kids would be dragging behind. There was much comment around here about it for a while. I have not seen Sam or Mary or any of the family in several years since our kids have all grown and gone off so I have no idea what the family is like now. As much as I dislike Sam's politics I have enjoyed some times with his wife and kids so I hate to say too much. No abuse, nothing like that. People used to point and say, "Look! There are the Brownbabies walking 4 feet behind the Brownbacks as usual." It did seem blatantly political then.

4. i think he could appeal to religious minorities
because while he is anti choice, he has also adopted kids also. not just white kids but minority ones. so he isn't just seen as one of those who talks but has actually taken in kids who need a home.
