The October Surprise 1980 ..... Turns out to be true .....
For those who remember the story of George H W Bush meeting with
Iranians so as to keep the hostages held longer until after the Carter
Reagan vote in Nov. 1980 ........

The slime didn't start w/ W.

http://www.consortiumnews.com/2005/russianreport1980.html

We have to get W from power and clean the whole rat's nest of un-American
election stealing war profiteers who manipulate God, the flag, our troops,
fear, and the media so as to maintain their ill gotten gains.

BTW .... I don't like "them."

...sure. No wonder they don't want Carter attending the Pope's funeral, could never look Carter in the eyes.

4. Maybe we can have an American Ideal type show
Where each week we can have new and old Neo Con sleeze buckets
showcase their talents at lying and killing America and the world.

First show .... Condi, Rove, Wolfie, and Rummy?

Get James "Dr. Doom" Bakker in too.

6. Make Sure to Read the Transcript --
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2005/russiantext.html

Those pdf files are hard to read. Key paragraphs:

In Madrid and Paris, the representatives of Ronald Reagan and the Iranian leadership discussed the question of possibly delaying the release of 52 hostages from the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Teheran, taken hostage by Iranian "students" and members of the "Corps of Defense of the Islamic Revolution" on 4 November 1979 until after the elections that took place in November 1980. In exchange for this, the American representatives promised to supply arms to Iran. This was asserted, in particular, by a former Israeli intelligence agent, Ari Ben-Menash, a Jew born in Iran and arrested in 1989 in the U.S. for supplying arms to Iran (arrested in California on charges of exporting contraband C-130 aircraft from the U.S. to Iran and who was in prison for 11 months and then freed). According to his calculation, the total value of the arms illegally delivered to Iran reached 82 billion dollars.

Data on attempts by the R. Reagan team to temporarily block the release of American hostages in Teheran are also contained in official statements of several Iranian figures, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Gotb-Zade in September 1980.

------

Just bears out what the "conspiracy theorists" have been saying for over 20 years.

10. The story squares with the one told by Barbara Honegger...
...A former Reagan staffer who published a book named 'October Surprise' in 1989. Same as Gary Sick detailed as well.

Former Iranian president Bani Sadr told the same story, too.

It was the first coup in a series of American coup d'etats. We are still very much feeling the after-effects of all this.

flying to Paris in the back seat of an SR-71. I would stick with plainer truths in Sick's book that it echoes.

I think we also have to consider the source of this report. It may well all be true, but it was a KGB release.

If this is indeed accurate, so much for Mr. Hamilton and his bi-partisan commissions. This would make him the greatest cover-up artist of all time.

8. Does this mean we can now push the reset button and go back to
1979, for a do-over?

We could see the Soviet Union collapse during Democratic tenure, rather than Republican.

We would have avoided the Gulf War, and thus the souce of Al-Queda's war on us.

We would have developed a responsible energy policy.

We would not have let NASA languish, thus preventing subsequent shuttle disasters.

The BFEE would still be operating on the fringes, rather than at the seat of power.

I WANT A DO-OVER!!!

12. Confirms Bush Sr. was in Paris in October 1980.
Why is this just coming out now? Why did the panel chaired by Lee Hamilton, also on the 9/11 Commission, never release this report?

The Russian report describes a bidding war between President Carter and the Republicans for release of the hostages. The Iranians went with the Reagan party bid. Wonder if the Iranians would care to release their files now? How about the Russian files on 9/11?

Looks like another pox on both houses. This helps to confirm what has been written elsewhere, and to put things into perspective.

15. Bu$h-1 learned well from Kissinger and Nixon.
DRESS REHEARSAL: THE SECRET OF '68

by Christopher Hitchens

(Excerpt quoted from Part One of Christopher Hitchens` Report The Case against Henry Kissinger, The Making of a War Criminal, in Harper`s Magazine, February 2001)

In the fall of 1968, Richard Nixon and some of his emissaries and underlings set out to sabotage the Paris peace negotiations on Vietnam. The means they chose were simple: they privately assured the South Vietnamese military rulers that an incoming Republican regime would offer them a better deal than would a Democratic one. In this way, they undercut both the talks themselves and the electoral strategy of Vice President Hubert Humphrey. The tactic »worked«, in that the South Vietnamese junta withdrew from the talks on the eve of the election, thereby destroying the peace initiative on which the Democrats had based their campaign. In another way, it did not »work«, because four years later the Nixon Administration tried to conclude the war on the same terms that had been on offer in Paris. The reason for the dead silence that still surrounds the question is that in those intervening years some 20,000 Americans and an uncalculated number of Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Laotians lost their lives. Lost them, that is to say, even more pointlessly than had those slain up to that point. The impact of those four years on Indochinese society, and on American democracy, is beyond computation. The chief beneficiary of the covert action, and of the subsequent slaughter, was Henry Kissinger.

http://www.studien-von-zeitfragen.net/Druckversion/Kissinger%201968.htm

The Nixon/Kissinger manipulation of the Paris Peace process during the 1968 presidential campaign was clearly treasonous. Bu$h-1's manipulation of the Iranian Hostage Crisis to sabotage Carter's re-election chances would be damned close to treason. If you haven't seen The Trials of Henry Kissinger by Christopher Hitchens (and if you can stomach Hitch on screen), by all means see it. Little wonder the world hates our guts.
