Republican House going to make inheritance taxcut permanent ? |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 11:02 AM by kentuck
I heard this on C-SPAN in between programming. What does that mean? It seems they are thinking about maybe losing the House next time around, and just in case, they want to make permanent all the damage they have done in the last few years. But, how irresponsible is it for any legislator to talk about more taxcuts or making taxcuts permanent at this time - when we have deficits that are going to have to be addressed? And cutting Veterans benefits or school lunches will hardly do the trick? These people should be run out of town on a rail.

Social Security is in such dire economic straits that the only responsible thing to do is make sure debutantes and playboys never get taxed on their multi-million dollar inheritances...

7. The first million was already exempt from taxes. |

Before Bush started this abolition of the "death" inheritance tax, the first million was already exempt from taxation.
How many Americans knew this? Make sure to let them know.
On edit: Ask them, "When your 'rich' Uncle Junior died and you inherited, how much did it cost you in inheritance taxes?"
How many people ever amass fortunes large enough to pay inheritance taxes? How many people are millionaires?

11. One of my personal highlights of the 2000 GOP primaries |
|
was Steve Forbes telling old folks on Medicare at a nursing home that he wanted to abolish the inheritance tax for them...whereupon one of the senior citizens loudly brought up that very point.
You might recall the hypocritical caterwauling by the GOP about "family farms," even though --no instance of ANY family farm being lost due to inheritance taxes could be uncovered anywhere in America; and --the Republicans refused to consider a Democratic bill that would grant an inheritance tax exemption to family farms only...

6. Yep! They are looting the SS Trust fund and leaving IOU's... |
|
that they do no want to pay back. Reagan and Poppy Bush started it during their mis-administration and Dumbya has elevated it to the tune of $639 billion. They have Enronized the Treasury.

4. GOAL: to create such a financial disaster so that when the Democrats |
|
do resume control of Congress, that they will be forced to cut funding to all the programs hated by the repukes! This will enable the repukes to come back in 08 and say, the Democrats cut all the programs.

8. Ugh; I'm more fiscally conservative than most here, but this is insane |
|
I don't know why the Democrats haven't hammered them on this. It benefits a tiny minority of people while shifting the burden to everyone else. I'm more fiscally conservative than most here, but still find this completely ridiculous. I'd like to see something where a reasonable amount could be passed on for basic living expenses, education, etc tax free or with a low tax, with the remainder taxed heavily.

10. Well, dropping the Inheritance Tax ISN'T fiscally conservative... |
|
Even with it, any rich folks could do enough financial planning to ensure that their offspring would never need to do a lick of work.
"Conservative" doesn't mean what it used to...
