would you vote for someone for President if you knew... |

would you vote for someone for President if you knew he would...
...cut social spending to almost 0%?
...replace his VP candidate at the last minute because he was too liberal?
...advocate welfare reform?
...appoint two Republicans to high level positions?
Just curious...

People today misjudge the past; for example, if JFK ran today, he'd probably not be too popular at DU. He & the Scoop Jackson Dems would drive people crazy.
I regret the way parties have become so polarized. Republicans used to have Liberal members, & Dems used to have conservative members. And the country was way better off that way.

also pointing out that our absolute Great and Greatest Presidents would be "textbook unelectable" using today's criteria for what constitutes an acceptable nominee, including Lincoln. LINCOLN (allegations of a same-sex lover, support for minority rights, lack of support for the über wealthy, and significant health issues). Sad.

if he had ties to the incarcerated head of a notorious political machine
refused to attack powerful Republicans solely for political gain
would sign a law requiring a loyalty oath for govt employees
and referred to a disgraced former GOP president as a good friend

How about a President who...
...withdrew American troops from an unpopular war
...instituted a system for sharing federal tax revenues with the states
...established a federal agency for protecting the environment
...and ended the draft?

Some here demonize today's democrats - taking great pains to point out their faults. These same ones hold up Dems of the past as almost saints - never realizing that they are guilty of the same things they demonize today's Dems for.

FDR constructed the social safety net, and in the middle of the Great Depression. A certain somebody helped the GOP put holes in it, in the middle of the tech boom.

Would you vote for a Dem for Senate who: - once filibustered a civil rights bill - voted against expanding hate crimes to include sexual orientation - voted to prohibit same sex marriages - stated that atheists should have limited say in government - voted for a ban on partial birth abortion
