Rasmussen's Hillary Meter
Rasmussen Reports has created a "Hillary Meter" to monitor Senator Clinton's "efforts to move to the political center." It also tracks the numbers of people who say they definitely would vote for her ( currently 32%), definitely will not (37%), or might depending on her opponent (26%). I'll leave it to my fellow DUers to guess what might be Mr. Rasmussen's motives in creating this nifty little device.

"April 6, 2005--Sixty-three percent (63%) of Americans say it is somewhat or very likely that Senator Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee in 2008.

With this in mind, Rasmussen Reports is launching the Hillary Meter--a twice monthly measure of Senator Hillary Clinton's effort to move to the political center. For as long as the former First Lady is a viable candidate for the White House, we will continue to monitor public perceptions of her political ideology. As part of the process, we'll measure her favorability ratings and also find out how many people will definitely vote for her or against her. From time-to-time, we'll test her numbers on a state-by-state basis with a special interest in the marginally red states that a Democrat must win to capture the White House.

The first edition of the Hillary Meter finds that Senator Clinton has been somewhat successful in moderating her image over the past couple of months. Currently, 43% of Americans view the former First Lady as politically liberal. That's down from 51% at the end of January.
At the same time, the number who view Mrs. Clinton as politically moderate has increased from 27% to 34%.

However, the current numbers for Mrs. Clinton are to the left of John Kerry's ratings at the beginning of Election 2004. Perceptions of Senator Kerry shifted significantly during the campaign. In January, just 37% viewed the eventual Democratic nominee as politically liberal. That increased to 53% by mid-October."

2. and a great fund raising device for Republicans
The higher she goes, the more contributions they rake in? I'll never understand the great Hillary hatred in the country. She's not a favorite of mine, but I don't see her as worse than most of the rest of them. She also has great political skills and is as smart as a whip. I saw her speak in person once and she was mesmerizing. Much better than Edwards or, obviously, Kerry. I disagree with her on a boatload of issues, but I recognize she has skills.

4. Either way they can bring in the cash
Liberal meter dropping? "Send in your contribution now! Clinton is distorting her ultra-liberal record to present herself as a moderate. Donate now so we can give Americans the facts!"

Liberal meter rising? "Send in your contribution now! Clinton is soliciting contributions from her elite ultra-liberal supporters. Donate now to keep Clinton and her ultra-liberal agenda out of the White House!"

3. How about the Husb2Sparkly meter?
Measure how many people think I'm a clown and what my chances of being clown of the year might be .... and will I be elected to the clown hall of fame ..... will my clown face ever be copied ..... will my rubber nose be mass marketed when some Chinese factory rips off a copy of it ..... these issues are about as meaningful as the pap Razzy's doing.
