I've become cautiously optimistic about NBC's Brian Williams
My opinion of Williams had always been low. He just looked like a corporate sell-out, and he seemed to smooth by a half.

But this last week I've been watching his show. I noticed a few things. He closed an interview about the Pope and his anti-materialism with the words "As John Lennon said 'Imagine no possessions.'" Kinda different I thought, for a corporate media guy.

His interviews with Clinton were respectful, and he gave Clinton a chance to respond to the "mixed legacy" pseudo-story. It was done well, although very short.

This last week he's also given good coverage (given the short time constraint) of the right wing's war on the judiciary, featuring close ups of Delay and Cornyn in action. Another night the program pointedly told how the the Schiavo had indeed been written by the hand of a pub.

One of my biggest complaints with the nightly news is its length. I don't think you can do good world wide coverage in thirty minutes.

1. So are you saying that the assessment of him
...by DC insiders that he is the "GOP go-to guy" is premature?

4. So far he seems pretty objective to me.
He also seems down to earth and like he knows what details are important. At least for now I'll keep watching - I think he is going to be fine and manage to offend both extremes from time to time.

5. He must be doing something right
Media Matters reported "whispers" that he was the go to guy, but the right hates him too. They think he is too liberal.
This is two years old, but I did come across this National Review article assailing him for his liberal bias.
