Bolton to face potentially damaging testimony today
Bolton to face potentially damaging testimony today
http://www.ktre.com/Global/story.asp?S=3197103

CAPITOL HILL Undersecretary of State John Bolton may face potentially damaging testimony today in his bid to become the U-S ambassador to the U-N.

---snip---

Today a former chief of the department's bureau of intelligence and research is set to testify. He could air new charges that Bolton intimidated other officials.

However, because Republicans hold a majority of the seats in the Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate itself, Bolton could be on track to be confirmed unless damaging new information emerges.

========================

more rugs, we need more rugs.... Maybe Christo and Jeanne-Claude's next project will be putting a big carpet over the capital?

1. The Dems stepped up to the plate yesterday. Bet the WH is fuming!
But the article is right, the 10-8 Republican majority of the Committee will allow Bolton going foward. Just like Condi in the past-he will be rewarded for his incompentency.

2. The Key person here is Senator Chafee
and if the testimony is bad and it appears Bolton lied to them, IMHO he will side with the Dems.

3. I just heard him on NPR..
... I wouldn't count on it. Sounds like he's already decided to vote for Bolton.

4. Then we need to filibuster it in the full Senate
Enough posturing and threats from the Senate Dems. This guy sucks and needs to be stopped.

5. Did it again

Counting on something that won't happen. They haven't done it with anyone else, they won't start with Bolton. They'll put it to a vote, it'll be close, but he'll still get confirmed. To expect anything else at this point is just crazy.

You're just hoping and reaching for any straw. I respect that, because you're still holding onto a thread of whatever this country was supposed to be. They have all the power.

6. Why all the bitching about the "nuclear option" then?
If you aren't going to filibuster something as outrageous as Bolton, why complain about losing the ability to do it?

7. Forget about Chafee
He'll screw us.

The myth of the moderate Republican riding in to save the day is finally exposed. When push comes to shove, Chafee, Snowe and Collins will buckle when the GOP leans on them enough.

8. Negropone hearing is also today - 10AM
See discussion thread has been started at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1719297

It contains several links to background articles by authors such as Chomsky. For a complete biography, see the daily CSPAN post in the POLITICS forum.

Negroponte's nomination to director of national intelligence, in my mind, is much more onerous than Bolton to the UN. MUCH MORE!
