although I find some of his positions a little conservative for my taste. He ran a very good campaign in 02. One of the few Democratic highlights of that particular November.
I think, however, he may be a little too inexperienced at the moment. He has only been in the job for just over a year.

....if they're looking for a southerner to balance the ticket. However, he is very DLC.

3. Well, he's fiscally conservative... |
|
and pretty much every Virginian who has had to go to the DMV since he took office hates him with a passion.

4. As a Virginian and Democrat... |
|
I'm pretty neutral toward Warner. Good man, not to bad. Vice President some day? Maybe. I'd really like to see a Virginian run for President again some day. I agree with the comments about DMV though, I had to go there once after all the "you need this, this, this, and this... oh and don't forget that!" restrictions. Very irritating. Don't really blame him though; it's a lot better than the Patriot Act.
I could see Warner as a Vice President, some day. I just don't think his time is now. Not yet. I just wish he'd change his attitude. It's a bit boring for my tastes. (But then again, I guess that's why I like Dean. :p)

5. He has a very hard job and doesn't yet have clear successes to point to |
|
His referendum to tax No VA and Tidewater in order to spend more on transportation was voted down, even though we all agree traffic is a nightmare.
The tax structure in the state is completely screwed up (lowest cigarette tax in the nation, only a few cents per pack) and the Republican dominated legislature will do everything they can to keep him from getting his changes through. Fortunately another Republican (bless his heart, to my surprise) has proposed an even more comprehensive tax plan change, so Warner's may not be attacked or changed as much.
If he can have a big success here without alienating the voters, that will help him. But he would weaken the ticket as VP at this time.
