USA Today NH Poll - Kerry leads Dean by 5% ( with 30+% undecided)
http://www.usatoday.com/news/polls/tables/live/2004-01-21-nh-poll.htm

Poll numbers as we know can be "misleading". But the most telling number for me is the number of "undecided people" with 4 days left to go.

Dean may get a little rebound in the polls with his 20/20 (1/2 hour interview) and Kerry may get a nice lift from his debate performance.

I read on the Dean Blog that they are overwhelmed with volunteers who want to help...but I know the numbers in Iowa and that wasn't a predictor....we'll have to see.

2. I'd point out that one day from this tracking is pre-Iowa (1/19)
Presumably most calls were made before the 10 o' clock announcement of Kerry as the winner. It's also pre-yeaaaaaaaahhhhh! You have to remember with these tracking polls that if one day is 1/19 it keeps Kerry close. In the next few days all the polls will have Kerry between 10-15 points ahead.

4. I think Dean's debate performance and "primetime":
interview will help him close the gap. He didn't hit a homer in the debate, but then I didn't think anyone else did either. He held his own and got his points on his record across. Now his "Primetime" appearance with Judy Dean was a big-time Home-run. The Letterman thing proves he can laugh at himself, but I don't know how effective that was.

5. CSPAN this am "people were looking for reasons to come back to Dean"
If it was enough...we'll know on Tuesday. My reactionw was positive...but I like his stance on issues and the passion to wake-up America and defeat bush.

6. So the gap is closing even tho Dean supposedly
had a MELTDOWN? Oh, that's right...the crazy man had the nerve to do damage control by having an interview with his wife. Actually I wonder if that wasn't taped before his speech, anyone know?

I guess if it worked for Clinton, Dean should not do it, because everyone on this board seems to hate Clinton now.

8. It was yesterday....he had the same bad cold... read / watch the
interview...I think 20/20 did it to try to "bury him" based on listening to ian Sawyers questions...however I think it helped him by showing people a much bigger picture of his views, his family, his relatiosnhip etc...

7. People in NH have Kerry fatigue
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 09:47 AM by seventhson
and so do I.

I believe people who know the two men best will choose Dean.

Dean was clearly hurt by the rebel yell. BUT it was a REBEL yel in the best sense.

He was rallying his troops.

Dean is MUCH better on the issues. Kerry is scary. And I think he is perceived as a hypocrite by those who know him best.

Dean will reemerge and win on Tuesday, I predict, because New Hampshire voters are smarter politically than Iowans IMHO.
