"Religious McCarthyism"; now THAT'S a term with legs |
|
The spokesperson for People for the American Way just tossed off this little zinger on CNN, and it definitely has a ring to it.
We are the party that embraces religion; they're the party that REQUIRES it and allows very few versions to pass muster.
We've long since crossed the Rubicon where the religious arguments became necessary on both sides. Terrifying that this is, there's at least some comfort to be had from the fact that many of belief come to their current stance out of a heartfelt desire to belong; hopefully, the gentle believers will rise up against the fire-breathing life-haters who seek their fundamentalist eternity at the expense of others.
Frist is just another nobody sucking up to power for personal advancement; may he be exposed for what he is.
Mercifully, he's got the personality of the average newel post and no amount of varnish can blind us to the boring reality.

along with "Radical Republican," it should be used with every publicly exhaled political breath, especially within eye/earshot of the "free press..."

4. I had a lawyer tell me in front of a judge yesterday, that christians are |
|
being persecuted in America. I asked him for one example. He said that a guy in Texas wanted to say a prayer at a school graduation. The issue was litigated and the judge told him not to (I haven't researched this story). He said the prayer anyway and the judge locked him up. I asked the lawyer right in front of the judge (we were small talking in between cases) if the guy was locked up for praying or for contempt of court? All he could do was stumble over his tongue after he explained to me that we are a nation of moral laws.

5. "specialness" is the curse of belief |
|
This person was being restricted from shoving his beliefs down the throat of others. That's how Article One works: "prohibiting the free expression thereof" works to nullify anyone from forcing his/her upon others; free expression stops at the point where it infringes on the free expression of others.
Should an individual be granted the right to dance ecstatic with the love of its Big Whatever IN PUBLIC (especially under the guise of governmental endorsement) it literally pisses on anyone who disagrees. To deny that isn't persecution, it's the denial of aristocratic status to the proselyte who demands the right to spread the alleged joy.
How the fuck can 76% of the population be persecuted? They must be a laughable bunch of losers if they are.

13. not only are they NOT persecuted |
|
but they are actually seeking SPECIAL RIGHTS.
they want the special right of forcing the rest of us to sing along, pray along, be born yet again.
they want the special right of being able to openly discriminate, openly express prejudice, openly HATE.
they want the special right of all this, FOR THEIR CHOSEN LIFESTYLE!!!
they did not pop out of the womb expressing all these beliefs, they had to be taught, and they had to PERSONALLY CHOOSE TO BELIEVE.
yes, they had to personally choose to believe something that is so full of contradictions, so full of outright false assumptions, so full of things that are so contrary to the very nature that surrounds them, that in order to go along they had to wipe the slate clean and start from scratch, i.e. BORN AGAIN!
in other words, their beliefs are so contrary to reality, their "beautiful mind" could no longer function, so they had to erase all previous thoughts and rewrite the most basic of beliefs, in order to support their chosen lifestyle of discrimination, prejudice and hate.
if that ain't special rights, i don't know what could possibly be.

"We are the party that embraces religion; they're the party that REQUIRES it and allows very few versions to pass muster." ------ Or, how about: '...they are the party that REQUIRES a very narrow view that does not represent the majority of Americans.' Either way, this should be stated repeatedly by EVERY Dem who gets air time.

14. Not only a good phrase, but maybe a **coordinated** phrase? At Last! |
|
I heard the very same phrase from the Dem on MSNBC's tea time yak fest with Ron Reagan and Monica Whats-Her-Name.
"Religous McCarthyism"
Can it be that *finally* the Dems are getting their shit together?
Nah ... never happen .... or will it .... ?

People don't seem to bother knowing anything anymore unless it's for financial advancement of pure entertainment.
I'd say "religious thuggery", but it would meet with too much resistance. Maybe this is how the future is taken over by the corporatists: there's no base level of cultural awareness to which one can appeal in an attempt to bring change. It's arrogant and elitist to say so, but sometimes it just needs to be said.
