Because it appears that he has chewed off more than he can chew when his arrogance and his inclination to gamble with the lives of others led him to take on the "privatization" of Social Security. After two months of jaw-boning, he has not made any progress at all. In fact, he has lost support. His polls are at an all-time low - even lower than pre-9/11.

He reminds me of the hillbilly that stuck his arm in a hollow log to try a catch a bobcat. His friend asked him "if he could help him hold him?" The hillbilly said, "No, I want you to help me turn him loose.."

.... finally, at long last the Repug machine is finding that that there is a limit to what you can accomplish with propaganda.

They have been so successful for so long at lying their asses off to get what they want, they thought they could sell anything to anyone.

They've hit the wall and it is sweet on two fronts. First the long knives are not going into the back of SS yet. And second, they no longer look invulnerable. This failure is going to cascade into other failures and maybe Dems will even stand up to them now that it is clear they don't control the world.
