Chaffee RE Bolton : "It's a New Day" .....
From the WP: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A1691-2005Apr19.html

Posted in DU LBN by Pirate Smile: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1407358

The developments, which some aides called stunning, complicate matters for Bolton's backers. "The dynamic has changed," said Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee (R-R.I.), who before yesterday's session had said he was reluctantly inclined to vote for Bolton. "A lot of reservations surfaced today. It's a new day."

Yes indeed, Senator .. it IS a new day .. Isnt it ? ....

5. Oh yeah .... It seemed that Dodd and Biden executed a bold stroke ....
It also seemed that Hagel bent over backwards to aid them .... it was quite a spectacle ...

7. I saw it ---
I get down on Biden for various reasons, but he impressed me today. I had no idea the guy was capable of that kind of fire - usually he just grins and rambles. He was terrific this afternoon.

10. He really was - they all were
I've sometimes had my doubts about Biden - a lot of style, but not as much substance, but today I was completely impressed with him. AND all the other dems. As for the repukes - Allen and Coleman continue to repulse me - I can't believe anyone actually voted for either one of those guys.

Today the dems showed that they are truly the thinking person's party - compared to them, the repukes looked like...well, exactly what they are, for the most part. A bunch of morons who don't seem to have an independent thought.

I am so glad that the two repubs made the decisions they made, no matter whether it was for political reasons, or reasons of conscience. Bolton should NOT represent the US in any way, shape, or form. Anyone who truly cares about this country should realize that much.

3. Chafee doesn't like to stick out like a sore thumb...
...he will vote party line but as soon as a more conservative Repub (ie Voinovich) switches sides, Chafee will vote with the dems in a heartbeat.

4. Can't we find some kind of job for Bolton?
It's going to be *very* difficult to maintain the lifestyle to which he's accustomed... :P

9. Actually, I thought what Brzezinski said made some sense
"Maybe we're better off with him sitting in New York at the U.N. than with him having an important post either in the State Department or in the National Security Council in the White House, actually shaping American policy."
