The Heathen are saying that is legal for them to preech against
the fillibuster. I find this hard to believe when they are using funds from the non-profit agency to urge their followers to defeat the fillibuster.

Dear Christians:

On “Justice Sunday,” April 24, 2005, the Family Research Council will host a live simulcast in which Dr. James Dobson, Dr. Al Mohler, and Chuck Colson and others will urge you to ensure that your Senator properly discharges his or her constitutional duty to either approve or reject each of President Bush’s nominees for the federal judiciary. Some senators may evade their duty by filibustering, thus indefinitely blocking the President’s reasoned and necessary appointments. If such undemocratic tactics succeed, America will suffer from understaffed courts and worse, from decisions by activist judges who prefer to alter the law rather than interpret it. The best antidote to such an abuse of power is for American citizens—especially Christian citizens—to hold their senators responsible for their actions.

The speakers on Justice Sunday will motivate Christians to achieve this vital goal. Unfortunately, when the church publicly addresses civic needs, leftist groups oft respond with intimidation designed to silence Christians. Typically, such groups threaten churches with the loss of tax-exempt status or violations of various election laws. However, such a simplistic, brutal scare tactic would utterly lack any legal merit in this instance. Indeed, simply calling on senators to discharge their constitutional duty is a moral obligation that is not properly regulated by either election law or the federal tax code.
groups should immediately contact the ADF (1-800-TELLDAF, or www.telladf.org).

Our attorneys will promptly review your situation and make every effort to defend your constitutional rights. ADF is here to protect the precious constitutional rights of churches and Christians. Do not be silenced by fear or intimidation! Sincerely Gary S. McCaleb Senior Counsel

1. Remember, it's free speech as long as it helps their cause.
If not, it's activism.

When have the reichwing nutjobs EVER been silenced by anything, let alone "fear or intimidation"?

Fear and intimidation from who exactly?
Spongebob and his lawyer?

7. Yeah, me too.
Thanks, the "THIS IS YOUR GOD" one was really hard to find.
I have had those pictures in my head since I first saw the movie.
The critics got it wrong, it's not about aliens, it's about mind control.
JC was mocking the reaganites but I think this film was about much more than just that. The yuppies, the media and the cops all sold out.
The homeless tent cities, the unemployment, the fear...this could be us in ten years.

8. The aliens were a byproduct to me.
I saw it for the message. But it didn't re-register until years later. I didn't ever consider that it wasn't a statement about a possible future, but where were at then. Post 9/11, I've been paying more attention, and really picked up over the last year (to the chagrin of my co-workers, since I won't shut up now)

Having the people in the tent-city watching the commercial of the woman who couldn't type because her nails were so long was a treat.

Funny, in that movie, they used a church to try and save us. These days, people are using the churches to put us in that position.

10. I know what you mean,
I think he used the example of southern black churches and the role they played in helping the struggle for civil rights.
It is frightening, isn't it? The first time I saw it I was slightly amused, it was a great movie and I understood what he was going for but I never really thought about it until lately.
This is where we're heading and it's kind of creepy when you watch it now.
JC had a cinematic prophecy in 1988 and I wish more people would watch it. It deserves better.

4. This was posted earlier but I think it needs repeating
Here are some quotes from and AUDIO TAPE that someone obtained - these ministers are WAY into politics and using their church goers money to support their efforts. "Wake up and SMELL the audit"

"There's more than one way to skin a cat, and there's more than one way to take a black robe off the bench," said Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council, according to an audiotape of a March 17 session. The tape was provided to The Times by the advocacy group Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

"We set up the courts. We can unset the courts. We have the power of the purse," DeLay said at an April 13 question-and-answer session with reporters.

Perkins said that he had attended a meeting with congressional leaders a week earlier where the strategy of stripping funding from certain courts was "prominently" discussed. "What they're thinking of is not only the fact of just making these courts go away and re-creating them the next day but also defunding them," Perkins said.

He said that instead of undertaking the long process of trying to impeach judges, Congress could use its appropriations authority to "just take away the bench, all of his staff, and he's just sitting out there with nothing to do."

Claiming a role by the movement in the GOP gains, Dobson concluded: "We've got a right to hold them accountable for what happens here."

Both leaders chastised what Perkins termed "squishy" and "weak" Republican senators who have not wholeheartedly endorsed ending Democrats' power to filibuster judicial nominees. They said these included moderates such as Sens. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska. They also grumbled that Sens. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and George Allen of Virginia needed prodding.

"We need to shake these guys up," Perkins said.

Said Dobson: "Sometimes it's just amazing to me that they seem to forget how they got here."
