NRA is against the "nuclear option"
I just heard from one of my sources that the NRA has come out against the nuclear option. It strikes me that their position is a gift to democrats that we are not taking advantage of. The very fact that the NRA is against the nuclear option is something that we should be broadcasting LOUDLY. On another note the vote on the nuclear option is going to go a long way in deciding my plans for the next few years. If our representativesa don't even have the guts to stand up to the reliqious wackoes and defend our nation's system of checks and balances I will probably start investigating ways to move to another country. As a dual citizen (I hold two passports: British and American)I can legally work and live in most European countries. Finally I heard people are encouragng their friends in "red" states to fax, email or call their senator and tell them to oppose the nuclear option.

1. Did they give any reason why?
I guess I didn't think the NRA had much of a stake in this and that they would side with the republicans out of habit.

2. Because they know the repugs will cry like little sissies ...
when the Democrats are back in the driver's seat.

3. It's only a guess but...
I think the NRA believes the odds of the repukes remaining in power forever is unlikely and are fearful of what the nuclear option would mean to them when the Dem's are in power.

7. I'm sure that's it.
They have an interest in preserving the status quo regarding guns--and we know they are single issue voters. If you want to preserve the status quo your odds are better if it takes 60 Senators rather than just half to approve something.

6. Found this

"This NY Times aticle alludes to the possibility that the rule change might be applied to "all appointments" rather than just judicial nominations. Frist, of course, could use this as a threat and then back off, pretending that he is "settling" for a compromise that only applies to judges.

The article also notes the interesting right-wing allies we have--like the N.R.A--who are worried that this is just the first step in an effort to completely eliminate the filibuster."
