-snip-

The airfare to London and Scotland in 2000 for then-House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) was charged to an American Express card issued to Jack Abramoff, a Washington lobbyist at the center of a federal criminal and tax probe, according to two sources who know Abramoff's credit card account number and to a copy of a travel invoice displaying that number.

And then ...

-snip-

House ethics rules bar lawmakers from accepting travel and related expenses from registered lobbyists. DeLay, who is now House majority leader, has said that his expenses on this trip were paid by a nonprofit organization and that the financial arrangements for it were proper. He has also said he had no way of knowing that any lobbyist might have financially supported the trip, either directly or through reimbursements to the nonprofit organization.

  :spray:

to the purple fingers the Republicans were holding up at the SOTU address, doesn't it?

3. I get the feeling someone on the repub side is now trying
to sink him. Maybe Rove - he may want to get rid of Delay way before the 06 elections. There just seems to be a flood of info coming out.

5. Oh yes.
Definitely. They want to get him out of there before it probes deeper and wider. One unnamed repuke was quoted as saying something like "There is a lot of fear and loathing in Congress about this. A lot of people know that they could get caught up in it and they are sweating"(sic).

The executive branch has a long history of saying one thing while working towards it's exact opposite.

nothing to lose. Plus what Charlyvi (in post #16) said makes sense too.

25. that's their policy-NO RESIGNATIONS-like with Abu Ghraib
it doesn't matter how wrong you are or how many mistakes you make, as long as you don't admit it or take responsibilty for your actions

7. Yeah, they're dumping him as damaged goods...
just like Gingrich got tossed when he outlived his usefulness and started to think he was more important than the Permanent Leadership.

Nixon, too, come to think of it. Lott? There's that tipping point when the party just cuts its losses, and some of these guys just don't see it coming.

What worries me is that with Bugman gone and Frist mellowed out, they've got a year and a half to do damage control before the next election, and they'll try to make everyone forget they jumped the shark this year.

It's what they're best at. They sure are better at propaganda and damage control than at running the country.

18. Sweeping Iraq under the rug will be difficult
That is one issue they can't hide from and it is one hell of a mess. It's a country run amuck with no leadership and no relief in sight. Our poor troops!! DeLay and Bolton will be gone soon and there is another Frist to take their place.

9. I hope Delay lingers on in his role as Leader of the Republicans!
Each day he dangles and twists on his public web of lies and corruption is a day I find some enjoyment.
The Democrats now need to point out how he was elected to LEAD THE SENATE REPUBLICANS.

Tom Delay is the REPUBLICAN'S BEST AND BRIGHTEST.

Tom Delay was chosen as the REPUBLICAN Role Model.

Tom Delay is the one the Republicans chose to Stand in Front.

Tom Delay is SPEAKS FOR THE VALUES OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!

TOM DELAY
The BEST REPUBLICAN!

10. Delay's problem is now Republican problem
As Gingrich said "Delay's problem is not the Democrats but the country" here the catch phrase is the "country"..country meaning the Republican agenda going forward

22. He's also throwing out feelers for a 2008 Presidential bid...
..."President Newt."

You can do a search on DU for recent discussions on this. THAT's why he's mouthing off lately. He sees Frist positioning himself and wants to rope off his own little piece of turf at the same time.

19. Whore Fineman said on Tweety's show today that Gingrich will run in '08.
Not maybe, but that he will, indeed, run for president in 2008--and run a "moralist" campaign.

Could get interesting with Newt's track record.

... that would make me happier than seeing Newtie get the nomination.

Assuming of course, that the Dem nominee is not a wimp ass.

Because Newtie has more crap in his closet than even Delay.
