Africa Malaria Day
Apr 25 2005
Read MoreApril 25 marks the fifth anniversary of Africa Malaria Day – a day dedicated to reminding the world that global collaboration is essential to combating Malaria, a preventable and treatable disease that kills more than 1.1 million people every year, most of them children.
Significantly, this year's Africa Malaria Day represents the half-waypoint of a goal, set by African leaders at the 2000 African Summit on Malaria in Abuja, Nigeria, to reduce the continent's Malaria epidemic by fifty percent by 2010. In this years summit, leaders will reflect on their progress and outline a course for the next five years and beyond, while renewing their commitment to stand united in fighting a disease that continues to devastate so many throughout the region and world.
