For those of you calling Senators today, a few questions:
* Re: Justice Sunday/filibuster, what talking points are you using?

* Is it effective to call Senators if you're not a constituent? (I often do, but wonder if they just disregard the call.)

* Is there still a toll-free number to call the Capitol?

Thanks! :hi:

7. So WHO Do You Reach By Calling This Number???
Can you specify who you want to talk with or this just a "polling" number??

Will the requests really reach anyone in power there, or is it best to call or write each Senator?? My Senators aren't ones that I would think would be very helpful. Bill Nelson & Mel Martinez, even though Nelson has indicated his displeasure with Bolton, I have come to distrust him a LOT!

8. It's just an operator that directs your calls to where you want.
Just ask for the sanator you wish to speak to.

3. I'm saying several:
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 10:36 AM by calimary
A) I want the filibuster to survive - because I want MY voice heard (and regardless where I'm from, my tax money helps pay their salaries and benefits packages, so they DO represent ME also.

B) I want a NO vote on john bolton.

C) I want the tax-exempt status of all these religiosos trying to meddle in public policy - to be RE-EVALUATED.

And since all but two of my calls have been to people OTHER than my specific senators, I also say I care enough about this that I'm calling all the way from California. I use the sweetest voice I can, and I try not to get confrontational. Most of the time there's no need to, anyway.

4. i'm
asking them to oppose the nuclear option and to preserve the fillibuster.

most don't ask you where your from unless you expressly say that you're a constiuent, then they'll get your zip code. I think we should call even senators who aren't from our state, after all yesterday during justice sunday they urged the religious right to call mccain and murkowski as well as lieberman and others specifically, especially leaders of the party, they expect calls from outside.

6. I was under the impression they had caller ID type technology
because one time I called (I think it was Feinstein's office) and the guy said "But you're from Oregon?" and I hadn't revealed that -- he must have seen the area code.
