I can't wait to find out more. Great question's and I love the angle they're going with this with the security because since 9/11 happened they're supposed have higher security. So how did this guy get in? When he was first there he didn't even work for any "news" organization.

4. SANTA MIERDA, here we GO!!!!!!!!!!!
The lamestream media can dismiss RAWSTORY, an admittedly liberal website, but they CAN NOT IGNORE A CONGRESSIONAL REQUEST. That letter was SMOKIN'!

My favorite bits: ...On 13 occasions there is a record where he checked in with security, but is never registered as leaving the White House complex. How do you explain this?

4. Your Media Assistant, Lois Cassano, requested a total of 48 day passes for Mr. "Gannon" which helped facilitate his access for nearly 200 times over the last two years. It is nearly impossible that she would have made Gannon such a priority without direction from a supervisor. Would you like to revise your claim that, "I don't involve myself in that process, it's handled at a staff level."<1>

These records appear to confirm our concern that Gannon was treated in a manner that deviated from standard White House procedure for determining who receives press credentials, and to what degree members of the press and public are granted access to the White House complex. In fact, these entry and exit records only raise more questions, as your office has issued conflicting statements about his activities and apparently abused the press pass policy to avoid a full-fledged background investigation and allow Republican propaganda to be disseminated through a counterfeit media operation and a fake reporter.

Mr. McClellan, we have yet to receive any direct communication from your office in response to our repeated requests for information. The American people deserve to know what is happening in the White House Briefing room. It is unacceptable that you continue to deny them this information.

Not only unacceptable, but illegal. Those are public records, and there is NO national security issue inherent that would give them cover to deny the request. I sense the squeeze being put on Scottie.

Again, I say, someone needs to grab Ari and get him drunk and talking!

Dont leave Conyers twisting in the wind like you did on Election reform.

If this story dies, we will know why.

We cant expect the GOP owned media to tell us how corrupt it is- but we SHOULD expect our top, house-hold name DEMS to go out and make some headlines over this.

As I said, if this story dies, dont blame the GOP owned media for not repeating Conyer's concerns.

But what if 10 or 15 top name DEMs stood up for the truth with him and asked his questions in front of cable & network news show TV cameras?

The GOP/media will not investigate themselves- Top DEMS are going to have to raise the questions or resign to giving Bush another free pass.

and the only way this story is going to get legs is to have the top Democrats put down their quills & ink and get in front of the cable news show & network cameras and make some headlines over this.

John Conyers? Who is that? But Hilary, Kerry, Dean could, if they wanted to, could go on TV and back him up on this and REALLY get folks talking about this.

16. Are you serious? Who is Conyers? WHERE have you been?
I agree if more DEMS backed him it would be good, but even if he is only a House Rep from MI this man has been doing the right thing for DEMS since day 1.

He helped Boxer with trying to get the electoral vote stopped until ALL the votes were counted in tune to a 900 page report on the irregularities of the 2004 vote.

He's been all over the Ohio Vote Challenge.

He stood up and voted against HR 418 - which had that sneaky provision to give the Secretary of Homeland Security carte blanche authority to bypass any and all laws.

I know I see his name weekly on the DU doing something that you wish all the other DEMS could get on board with...

He was blasting the Vote Reform Committee for being a bunch of hacks and disrespecting former Pres Jimmy Carter who actually made the solid points.

And they vote. Neither does the woman who stood behind me in the grocery line yesterday- and she votes too.

Most folks dont read DU- they get their news from "the papers" and "the TV."

The only way these talking points will be repeated is if Top-DEMS go on TV and-GASSSSP!!!- repeat them!!

OR- we could sit around and wait for Wolf Blitzer to tell my Aunts & Uncles how corrupt the media is.

36. Alone, she is easily dismissed as a "Radical conspiracy theorist"
And thus, Wolf wont have to give her any face time or follow up anything she says. But what if 20 other DEMS, including the top names backed her up?

Now what would be Wolf's excuse for not allowing Hilary, Obama, Dean or kerry to come on TV and echo these things?

Boxer and Conyers are great- but they are not very effective unless the well known, quotable, house-hold named DEMS back them up.

...who could go on TV this week and echo Conyer's sentiments.

EVERYONE knows who Obama, Hilary, Dean & Kerry are. If this story is to grow legs, then the house-hold name DEMs will need to go on TV and back him up- tell Wolf & the gang, to their faces, that they too will be asking everyday why Bush invited a Prostitute pretending to be a reporter into the White House.

They could follow it up with "I wonder WHO else in the media is on the pay-roll- just when were you planning to finally investigate this, Wolf?"

OR- they can just sit around and write more letters and hope that Judy Woodruff, etc repeats their talking points for them.

The questions are NOT hard, and neither are the answers.

I have a really great time going out to public restuarnts and speaking about stuff I've read on DU and seeing in my periferral vision people's ears perk up and discussions start.

Hard to get on TV - whisper campaign with everyone on the DU participating would be more reliable anyway.

Still, we should work on both.

20. You are wrong--letters are FORMAL REQUESTS FOR INFO
You don't go on TV and scream without effect, you FIRST SEND A LETTER. Because if you do NOT send a letter, there is nothing to staple to a action/transmittal sheet. I do agree that you can use TV to PUBLICIZE the existence of a letter, but without one, the WH will just say "We have never received a formal request for information."

You can't really not know who John Conyers is. He is one of the most respected leaders in the House. Watch F-911, he gives us all a fine eye-opener about how the system works.

Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 05:42 PM by Dr Fate
Wolf, matthews & Woodruff will all read his letter aloud, and follow up on the story?

I'll believe it when I see it.

As you recall Conyers "wrote letters" about nationwide Election irregularities too- and that went no where.

Of course I know who Conyers is- I'm a DUer- but my Aunts, Uncles millions of swing voters do not read DU, and they do not know who he or Jeff Gannon is...

HEY- perhaps I'll write a letter too! then perhaps I can ask for donations for the Dr. Fate PAC and say "I'm fighting Bush- didn't you read about that letter I wrote on DU?"

Good luck to the DEMS and their "letters"- I say this would have stronger legs if it were being talked about "on the TV" by top, house-hold name DEMs.

Kennedy is the best on TV because they can try to push his buttons, but he just fires back.

Even though he speaks the truth regularly and has good things to say, the public ignores Kerry. I'm sure he's already asked about this and gotten no coverage.

18. Even after 9/11, a man-whore without journalism credentials
Even after 9/11, a man-whore without journalism credentials who publishes internet stories under a phony name can get a "press" pass to the White House and gain access to the building where the President lives and the whole Executive Branch works. This man-whore can use this "press" pass to gain access over 200 times during a two year period, including times when there were no press events such as on Sundays, and sometimes he will check in without checking out and occasionally he will even check out without there ever having been a record of him checking in.

Is that correct?

If so, we are holding a bunch of people in prison in Guantanamo Bay (without charges) based on far less evidence. Can there be any question that if it turned out that the fake journalist was Islamic, and not merely a prostitute, he'd be in leg irons?

So, can we fairly conclude that in Bush's America, it is worse to be Islamic than a man-whore?

How did this man-whore gain such unusual press access, and why was he there when there were no press events, and how was he using his press pass to get in and out of the White House without checking in or out?

Someone should ask press secretary Scott McClellan.

Guardsmen Denied Ground Zero Retirement Credit
By Maki Becker
New York Daily News

Monday 25 April 2005

<clip>

Hundreds of members of the U.S. Army National Guard who helped protect New York City after the Sept. 11 terror attacks aren't getting credit toward their military retirement for their service.

While Guard members were paid for their time, not a single day they spent in the rubble of the World Trade Center helping dig for survivors, controlling crowds and keeping order around the city counted toward their military retirement.

......

Protecting the West Point military academy, for example, did earn credit for that service.

......

To make sure the guardsmen get their due, Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan) and Pete King (R-L.I.) introduced bills that would treat guard-unit service in counties that were declared national disaster areas as federal duty

That bills should need to be introduced just to get the guardsmen their proper due.

Yeah, the repugs really Support Our Troops; send them out to die or dig through rubble for bodies, but when they get home, treat 'em like constituents and just screw the hell out of them.

99. Fair comment.
I see how the phrase "man-whore" could be offensive, and I apologize. I used the phrase "man-whore" only to highlight the hypocrisy of the current administration with regard to its attitude toward sexual identity, but I certainly see how the phrase could offend. I am, unreservedly, sorry for any offense.

40. What is correct focus for Guckert discussion?
While some try to keep the focus on security issues and moral issues with respect to Guckert (for which excuses will be made), I hope dems continue to bring the discussion back to the angle that Bush and WH press conferences are dishonest and FAKE....that Guckert was there as a fake journalist to slant the discussion and to give credibility to his fake propaganda articles.

Dems need to tie this to WH habit of lying, redacting documents, slanting research, issuing propaganda under the guise of news....it is all illusion designed to keep the public mis-informed.

It's incredible...It should be easy to make the case that this administration is the most dishonest in history...dems are given one easy, golden story after another with which to shape opinion, and our dem leaders boot it. Each week of outrage is following by another one of equal or greater outrage....yet no one with media access is willing to discuss them all together to paint a true picture of administration performance.

Some few dem leaders seem to get excited about selected issues, one at a time (Conyers: election reform; Boxer: electoral process; Kennedy, Waxman: Iraq War; Byrd: intelligence; Biden: Bolton), rather than stepping back and putting each issue in the context of a horrendous five-year record of deceipt, lies, corruption, power-grabbing, and stealing. Someone wants us to focus on the trees, not the forest.

LET'S TALK ABOUT GUCKERT AS ONE MORE EXAMPLE OF HOW THIS ADMINISTRATION HAS SOUGHT TO DECEIVE THE PUBLIC OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS!

48. To prove lies you have to have access to the truth....
With Gannon specifically, you can prove there is a moral issue - no problem. You can point to evidence that he was favored with not having to follow the security proceedures the rest of the world does.

For the lies, they will unfold in time, but we need proof and with the lack of evidence in mainstream news we have to resurrect it piece by piece because most of the public doesn't know the truth.

It would be like trying to explain there had been aliens posing as humans for centuries.... not that I believe that, but to many people who believed in the Republican party as the moral party and would never have condoned these actions had they known the truth, the lying bit without piece by piece evidence will be impossible to take.

Consider the other 2 parts a warm up, a teaser to the real show.

Also, it is good that the DEMS are dividing and conquering. It makes it possible for DEMS to be at every repub weak point, snapping and biting making sure they know we are here, we know the truth and we aren't going to shut up.

It's really up to US the people to display the forest. OP Eds, signs on the freeway overpasses, rallys, protests where we get the word out.

Conyers spent a lot of time digging to find the truth and document it and he's hanging in there. He does other things too.

Then there's Slaughter on Ethics (John is in there with her on that.)

I just sense that all the DEMS are winding up to hurl pitches as fast and furious as they can to make it as difficult as possible for the repugs to hobble away with their pants around their ankles on a lot of these issues, but we do need more media coverage.

This is such a wild and crazy time. Fuel for 15-20 sitcoms, ya know? "Everybody Loves Kerry", but where his parents are nice normal people and his neighbors are insane cross burning bigots... who vote for a monkey in a tux for mayor.

72. Male Prostitute in the White House....HELLO MSM
I have been reading all the posts here and with a few off-the-cuff comments about BJ's, why is no one looking at the possible sexual connection here? Is it too far out of the realm of possibility or have we too been brainwashed into believing our "leaders" are men of great moral character? Do none of you remember Monica? Have none of you ever heard of JFK's "Friends" having access to the WH. Come on, let's take this one on it's face and look at the facts.

-Male prostitute granted access to the WH (alone)

What more needs to be said?

Tonight on Countdown
------------------------------------------------------

There was always much talk about the FOBs (Friends of
Bill)...
But what about the FOGs...
President Bush is adding a helper to his Social Security
road tour: House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who is facing
allegations of ethical improprieties but is seen by the White
House as crucial to pushing Bush's plans through Congress.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5966983/

Meanwhile, this is out: Jeff Gannon visited the White House
196 times in two years. Democratic Reps. Louise Slaughter
of New York and John Conyers of Michigan filed a freedom of
information request and were given Secret Service records
of Guckert's visits to the White House. No word yet on
whether this conservative wanna-be met with the President.

102. Papers Raise Issue of Propaganda, Nat'l Security, & Possible Sex Scandals
Secret Service's Disclosure of "Temporary Appointments" Granted to "Jeff Gannon" Reveals That the Service Can Only Account for 49 Days of Security Clearance for Gannon Out of the More Than Two Years He Spent "Reporting" in the White House Press Corps

http://nashuaadvocate.blogspot.com/2005/04/secret-service-papers-raise-issue-of.html

1. Secret Service Access Control Records which establish that so-called "reporter" "Jeff Gannon" (real name "James Guckert," "working" name "The Bulldog"; yes, we're serious) entered the highest-security building in the world--The White House--on dozens of occasions when there was no journalistic reason for him to be there, because, in short, no press briefing was being held. That's right, a practicing, alias-using gay hooker roaming the halls of the White House, doing God knows what for God knows what reason. Repeatedly. And what's even better, the Secret Service can't locate many of his "in" and "out" times for his hours-long forays into the People's House. Scandal?

2. The Secret Service has also now answered written interrogatories submitted to the agency by Democratic Members of Congress. These answers contain irrefutable proof that Gannon received extraordinary and entirely inexplicable special treatment from members of the Administration in accessing the White House under the dubious--even incredible--circumstances in which he pitched tent there for more than two years as a phony reporter and "professional" Bush Administration propagandist.

<...>

Guckert made more than two dozen excursions to the White House when there were no scheduled briefings. On many of these days, the Press Office held press gaggles aboard Air Force One--which raises questions about what Guckert was doing at the White House. On other days, the president held photo opportunities.

On at least fourteen occasions, Secret Service records show either the entry or exit time missing. Generally, the existing entry or exit times correlate with press conferences; on most of these days, the records show that Guckert checked in but was never processed out.
