Recruits reporting by May 30 can get up to $20,000
April 27, 2005

FORT KNOX, Ky. (Army News Service, April 27, 2005) - Qualified active Army recruits who are willing to report for training by May 30 may be eligible for seasonal enlistment bonuses up to $14,000, which may be combined with other existing Army bonuses for a total of up to $20,000.

Qualified applicants who enlist in any active Army military occupational specialty for three or more years are now eligible for a seasonal bonus of up to $14,000 if they agree to report to training by May 30, according to U.S. Army Recruiting Command officials. They said this bonus, available to applicants with and without previous military service, was previously only available for high-priority job specialties.

Recruits who enlist for cash bonuses totaling more than $10,000 will receive their initial payment of $10,000 upon successful completion of initial entry training. The remaining bonus amount will be paid in annual increments. Enlistment bonuses totaling less than $10,000 will be paid in one lump sum upon successful completion of initial entry training.

More about the bonuses is available on goarmy.com.

2. Someone I know recently went to see recruiters.
He was set on the Navy. He was interested in the whole "pay for college" deal. He wanted to talk about what he could expect to do during his time in the service. He didn't hear about training, seeing the world, learning discipline, potential careers...no. All he heard, over and over, is how much he'll get laid. Seriously. These are the tactics being used to lure new young folks to enlist.

4. So much for the federal abstinance program
Wish he had been wired so the tape could be used in evidence against these lying faith-based holy roller hyportites.

3. Isn't support for the Iraq War still at about 50% or something?
Then why are they having any trouble with recruiting? It would seem that they would have lines out the door of young "patriot" heroes ready to go!

5. Actually, this morning my local news
in a shocking moment of reporting actual news, stated that a recent poll showed that 74% of Americans want the troops the hell outta Dodge now. Sorry no link, but that's been stuck with me all day since hearing it.
