Anybody else irked by Shrub calling the Secretary of State "Condi"
Frankly I don't like her and do not think that she should be Secretary of State but in discussing her talks with foreign leaders he constantly refered to her as Condi. This shows a lack of respect for both the woman and the office he appointed her to. I never remember him calling Powell "Colin" or Rumsfeld "Don".

I also didn't care for his calling Putin "Vladimir". They may be the greatest of pals (yeah right) but in a public forum it seems to me that the President of the United States should refer to a forein head of State by his title and surname.

he's done it from the very beginning and it totally annoys me. It strikes me as incredibly disrespectful also.

edited to add: I believe it has something to do with wanting to make sure everyone around him is diminished just a little. It's the same psychology as when he ridicules/teases reporters at press conferences. It's an element of his personality that makes sense when you've read BUSH ON THE COUCH.

I want a reporter to stand up at a press conference and yell, "George! Over here, George!"

I can count on one hand the number of times I've heard him refer respectfully to people. Usually, he's either calling them by some derogatory nickname, or using their first name instead of their proper title, or rubbing their heads, or whatever. It's his spoiled brat arrogance.

And she really impressed Pooty-Poot's people.

While Condoleezza Rice stated that her comments were made in friendship, it is easy to say that after having been insulting and an extremely rude guest. It is like being invited to someone's dinner party, insulting the chef, spitting on the floor, breaking wind loudly and then apologising.
Hardly the behaviour required of a lady.

13. Condi did once call George "my husband"
Black people have their crooks and hustlers, sure, but Rice and company are hustlers of an entirely different class and caliber to say nothing of pay scale – creatures of the same system and social circles that remain tremendously indifferent to Blacks, at best. Compared to Rice, accused con men like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are paragons of virtue – however manipulative they are, they never lose sight of their base. Politically, Rice has never been beholden to anybody but a Bush – remember that Freudian slip last summer, when during an interview she referred to W. as "my husband" instead of "the president?" Some of us were left convinced that, metaphorically anyway, there was no difference.

This is precisely how it should not be. My best suggestion to Black people and to the rest of the country is to take a sabbatical from February – regroup, think about where Black people really are, detoxify by turning off the television and reading or re-reading DuBois, Baldwin, Carter G. Woodson, Malcolm X and Dick Gregory (who first radicalized the word "nigger" by confronting it in a skillful but underappreciated autobiography).

Also:

How Condoleezza Rice became the most powerful woman in the world

One thing is certain. Through all the troubled times ahead, Rice will always appear calm. She has good reason to feel safe and secure for she has the unquestioned support of the only man who matters: Bush. When last year she referred to Bush as 'my husband' it was a Freudian slip that reflected how close Rice and the Bush clan have become. When it comes to Rice, the little girl from Birmingham who now bestrides the world stage, she really is part of the family.

He called her "Condi" for 4+ years. When nominated, he stated calling her by her full name or Dr. Rice. But privately I am sure she has always been "Condi" and, face it, he has trouble with difficult matters like names.

Did anyone see him refer to a reporter as "Stretch"? "May I call you Stretch?" "I've been called worse". Wasn't it Steve Cordry who did a riff on * nic names?

I've always thought that there was something going on between those two but and he can call her "sugarlips" in private if he wants to for all I care but she's the damn Secretary of State and he's (unfortunately) the President of the United States.

What's next--calling the Pope "Benny" or "Ratzo"?

"Before admitting to this schoolgirl's question that is was difficult to speak Russian, she had already made a fool of herself on Tuesday, when she declared that the Kremlin's grip on the media is "very worrying." - HEY CONDI ... SHOULDN'T WE BE WORRIED ABOUT THE GRIP THE CONSERVATIVES HAVE ON THE MEDIA HERE? Oops, my bad ... you're a shill for that party.

"Did Rice come to Moscow as a diplomat? Yes? No, no, no, no, no, no, no! She did not behave like a diplomat. As usual, she behaved with extreme arrogance and intrusiveness, declaring in advance that she was against the centralization of power by the Kremlin." - HEY CONDI ... SHOULDN'T WE BE WORRIED ABOUT THE EXTREME MEASURES THE CONSERVATIVES ARE WILLING TO GO TO TO CONSOLIDATE POWER INTO A ONE-PARTY (read REPUBLICAN) GOVERNMENT? Oops, my bad ... you're a shill for that party.

"... Condoleezza Rice, who might anyway wish to remember that it was her country which lied about the threat posed by Iraq and launched a shocking act of butchery in which tens of thousands of innocent people were slaughtered. This is "very worrying", yes? Or is it no, no, no, no, no, no, no?" - HEY CONDI ... SHOULDN'T WE BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT MANIPULAING INTELLEGENCE AND LYING TO THE PEOPLE IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE GOALS OF THE NEO-CONSERVATIVE AGENDA EXPRESSED IN THE PNAC? Oops, my bad ... you're a shill for that party.

"While Condoleezza Rice stated that her comments were made in friendship, it is easy to say that after having been insulting and an extremely rude guest. It is like being invited to someone's dinner party, insulting the chef, spitting on the floor, breaking wind loudly and then apologising." - HEY CONDI ... MAYBE YOU SPEND LESS TIME LYING, MANIPULATING, AND FAWNING OVER YOUR BOSS AND SPEND SOME TIME READING MISS MANNERS. Oh, BTW, with a friend like you we don't need enemies.

But, the President should maintain proper protocol. My guess is that he is trying to put a non-threatening face on a woman who is doing some very destructive things at her boss's request. It's like Laura Schlessinger calling herself "Dr. Laura" in order to make her viscious venom that passes for morality go down easier.

And to the people on this board who immediately "go sexual" whenever a woman is being discussed, you are just as bad as the freepers when it comes to women, no matter what airs you may give yourself.
