President Bush meets Chavez with 'a Coke in his hand' |
|
CNN is reporting that Bush met Chavez with a Coke in his hand (Bush's hand I assume). What's the significance of that?
Thanks

2. Purposely informal and disrespectful. Not how a head of state is received. |
|
I think that's the implication, anyway.

Coca-Cola's South American company has some pretty deplorable labor practices and there are longstanding animosities between the company and the locals. Google it.
The Coke in W's hand was a direct and not-so-subtle insult to Chavez.

More likely his stage manager, Rove.
You're absolutely right, though, about the moran and rude asshat.

CARACAS, Venezuela -- Foes of President Hugo Chavez vowed on Saturday to step up efforts to resolve the country's crisis peacefully -- one day after troops battled through protesters to raid privately owned bottling plants.
SNIP
Cesar Gaviria, the OAS secretary-general, began mediating the talks in November. Little progress has been made while a 7-week-old strike called to force Chavez from office threatens to destroy Venezuela's economy.
On Friday, soldiers seized food and drink from Venezuela's largest food company, Empresas Polar, and an affiliate of U.S. soft drink giant Coca-Cola to distribute.
Saturday, dozens of anti-Chavez protesters demonstrated outside a bottling plant in Valencia. One banner read, "Don't Buy Stolen Coke!" http://www.sptimes.com/2003/01/19/Worldandnation/Chavez_foes_promise_p.shtml

But I wonder why Bush is so sensitive to Saudi social customs when the Prince comes to call at the pig ranch, but so oblivious to the social niceties in every other situation???
Though I have my suspicions.

Past tense. I don't have the date just at the moment. However, Chavez has said he won't visit the U.S. again until "oppressed Americans liberate themselves." (I'm pretty sure I got that quote right, but I can't locate the article right now.)

...also had a smudge of Cheese Whiz on his fat chin and chili-nacho-Frito breath, too.
That bastard is such white trash.
He's like cousin Eddie from "Vacation."
This is how Junior frat-bastard acts to an international leader who dares to tell the truth about our corrupt government. Junior thumbs his nose and acts like a toddler in a sandbox.
What a classless, immature little brat!
Chavez shoul have looked at Junior deadpan and said, "Oh. Coke...it's 'the real thing' right? Too bad that election you won wasn't real...now on to the business at hand..."
God I hate that piece of pond scum! He's so developmentally stunted, it's embarrassing!

or CNN didn't say anything about it on air. They always leave out the good parts... Link on RawStory Saying that U.S. citizens are oppressed by their own government, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez promised Friday that he would not visit the United States again until Americans "liberate" their nation. http://cnn.worldnews.printthis.clickability.com/pt/cpt?action=cpt&title=CNN.com+-+Venezulean+leader%3A%A0U.S.+citizens%A0oppressed+-+Apr+29%2C+2005&expire=05%2F29%2F2005&urlID=14075509&fb=Y&url=http%3A%2F%2Fedition.cnn.com%2F2005%2FWORLD%2Famericas%2F04%2F29%2Fvenezuela.cuba.ap%2F&partnerID=2006
