Chuck Hagel wants to run for President in '08. |

He just gave one of those mealy-mouthed denials on Fist the Nation.

1. Well, he'll have no trouble getting votes, he owned a voting machine co.! |
|
That's great! We won't even have to go to the trouble of showing up at the voting booth. We'll just put the machines out and have Habel's campaign workers send signals over the internet -- Hagel!
And this guy is a smiling, calm "Republican moderate" with a great war record. Lets hope the wingnuts nail him before he rolls out himself, unless, of course, the Republican primaries use the machines he used to own.

as Republicans go, but I sincerely hope that he is not the nominee, because it will not matter who the Democratic nominee is.
This guy can attract a lot of moderate Democrats as he is not a crazy right wing Democrat, but he is still conservative enough to keep most of the Republican voters. I however doubt he will survive the Republican primary because the wingnut will kill him immediatly. He is too intelligent to be teleguided as Bush is or Allen could.

6. My opinion of him changed drastically finding out about him & BBV |
|
being connected.
The only way this man could run with honor, IMHO, is if he were to come clean about his Diebold ties and expose all the Diebold connections with rigged elections. He could redeem himself and do his part to save democracy for the future. Then maybe all of us would sit up and take notice.
So are you listening, Senator?

22. He has no ties with Diebold |
|
Edited on Sun May-01-05 03:51 PM by Mass
He was CEO of another company making BBV (this was before his election in 1996) and may be he knows things, but this is not Diebold (I should have read the previous post before I said that, as he states the same thing).
Anyway, I would not vote for him because he is too conservative, but frankly, there are a few Dems that are as much conservative as he is (I am not talking about Lieberman here), and that I would have a lot of trouble supporting if they ran.

I should read more carefully too!
I still hope he comes out publicly and addresses the issue of BBV since he has connections to voting machines (and may owe his own election to such). I'm hoping he could be some kind of whistleblower but fat chance in hell, I know.

4. Oh yeah, he most certainly does have plans. In fact, I think he'll be one |
|
of the big contenders in '08. I think that the repubs will go with him more than that knee pad wearing whore McCain. bush** soiled the McCain name and drug him through the mud too much back during the lead-up to the 2000 election. All that can be dredged back up.

Hagel is a Viet Nam vet...guess what that means to the Bush Lie Machine... I can't wait to see Frist ask Hagel why he got a medal he didn't deserve. Hey, it's been learned that you can just make this shit up and it sticks...
Hagel's obvious ties to BBVs makes him a shoo-in though.

about voting machines. Hagel is politically moderate when necessary and is on record as being unenthusiastic about the war. He is handsome, articulate and would be tough to beat. I can't, however, see him winning the nomination. The fundamentalists are in control of the GOP and there are too many other more desirable choices for them.

When was the last time you heard electro-fraud mentioned in the corporate media? Sure you have the die hard right wing fascists who delusionally believe that even Junior's Supreme Court selection was "the hand of Almighty God", but even the somewhat sane majority of Republicans would be disturbed to know the facts about voter fraud. Most of them would prefer to win honestly just as we would. After all, eventually someone's gonna find a way to hack those Diebold machines and put our numbers in ;)

If the Radicals lose power by 2008, McCain or Hagel, two conservatives who seem moderate by comparison, could get the nomination easily. But with the Radicals in control of the White House, hopefully Bush chooses Frist.

16. Frist is the most frightening, and the most likely to be elected |
|
IMHO.
McCain, Guliani, Schwarzenegger have all spoke out for tolerance to gays. They are history.
The shock troops of the religious reich are going to mass behind Frist in 2008.
When someone panders to the religious reich, they are not pandering to a special interest group that constitutes part of a coalition. The religious reich is an electoral plurality, all by itself.

Doesn't belong on a list of potential candidates because he can't run.
The other part is wrong. Right now, Bill Frist's negatives are at around 50%. That's Dick Cheney territory. If he ran for President, even Hillary could beat him.

19. Look at Bush's Negatives in 2004 and weep again for 11/3 |
|
Bush was crushed under an avalanche of negatives in 2004 including the 1000 US death in Iraq, the Abu Ghriab scandal, the Richard Clark revelations, the Paul O'Neil revelations, and many other major scandals. His approval ratings were in the toilet. His record was unmatched in failure. He is stupid and lacks charm.
None of that mattered because the religious reich stormed the polls on 11/2 and overwhelmed the largest, best organized, best funded, most energized progressive coalition in US history.
If the religious reich gets behind a candidate, I don't think it matters who they are, what their record is, what their appeal is, because these people DO NOT LOOK AT FACTS. Think about 2004 again. Facts pointing to Bush being evil and a disaster were abundant, yet he (barely) (allegedly) won. That it was EVEN CLOSE is a testament to the power of the religious reich.

20. What were Bush's negatives in 1997? |
|
I'm just saying, Bush was an incumbent President. At this time during the 2000 campaign, Bush was governor of Texas, with no name recognition other than "Junior." At this time during the 2004 campaign, Bush was vacationing. Frist's negatives are at 50% right now, three years before the elections. And he's going to spend a year campaigning without the Majority Leader title to keep him in the spotlight?

21. George Allen or Jeb Bush |
|
are the only ones that the NeoCon & the Religious Wrong will be pinning their hopes on, IMO....with Liddy Dole as Vp.
Hagel or McCain, the moderate choices will only have a chance if "normal" Pubs turn against Bush (could happen).
If they run Hagel or McCain....we would need a strong perceived moderate FP/NS candidate (can we say Clark?) that has more charm than either one of them....otherwise, we're done.

if he was running, which resulted in his non-denial denial.
I think he stands a much better chance than Frist of garnering the nomination. Almost as good a chance as McCain.
