Repukes may change rule started in 1977 so Coburn can keep his practice

US Senator Tom Coburn is continuing his fight to keep practicing medicine, despite a Senate policy that bans senators from working at certain professions.

Coburn is only the second doctor to serve in the Senate since the rule was passed by a special Senate committee in 1977.

The prospects for Coburn's challenge weren't clear last week. Coburn's hope to resolve the issue in April wasn't realized and he is five months from the September 30th deadline to stop practicing medicine.

In an interview last week, Coburn said Senate Rules Committee Chairman Trent Lott of Mississippi is willing to bring something before the committee to allow Coburn to continue practicing medicine

2. What? Don't his senatorial duties keep him busy enough?
Does he need a second income to make the mortgage?

3. If I was preggers and he was the OB
I would have a hard time with him working full time a few thousand miles away...why bother seeing him as an OB if you know there is a 99% chance that he won't even be the one delivering the baby??
It's one thing if a doc is in a group of OBs and you know he/she may or may not be on call the night you go into labor but at least the doc can follow up with you the next day and on follow up visits, etc..this guy can't even do that much.

5. If he wants to stay a practicing doctor, he shouldn't be in the Senate
What a jackass.
