One group has already asked Reid to stop act or resign his leadership position (From patrickhenrythinktank.org):

RESOLUTION FOR HARRY REID TO STOP PATRIOT III (AKA THE REAL ID ACT, THE REAL DEATH CAMP ACT, HR 418) OR RESIGN

WHEREAS, Harry Reid ignored the wishes of millions of Democrats throughout America and led the Senate Democrats in backing John Negroponte, a man connected to death squads that killed nuns and children in Central America; Reid also ignored concerns about Yucca Mountain when he backed Samuel Bodman as Secretary of Energy, ignored concerns about Michael Chertoff’s support for water-board torture, when he backed Chertoff for Secretary of Homeland Security, and ignored Condoleezza Rice’s false statements that helped leads to a war that killed over 1300 Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, when Reid backed Rice for Secretary of State, and

WHEREAS, Harry Reid put the interests of the credit card companies ahead of the welfare of the elderly, the disabled, children, the unemployed, and those in need of medical attention when he voted for the bankruptcy bill, and

WHEREAS, Harry Reid has stated that the Real ID Act (aka Patriot III, the Real Death Camp Act, HR 418), a law that guts the Constitution by placing the Secretary of Homeland Security above the Constitution and the law, endangers the health, safety and very lives of all Americans, effectively ends all future grants of political asylum and creates the basis for a national ID card, similar to the ones issued in NAZI Germany,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Patrick Henry Democratic Club calls on Harry Reid to stop backing the extremist policies of George W. Bush, a man committed to destroying the Constitution and to establishing an aristocracy and calls on Harry Reid instead to protect the American people from the kind of tyranny and terrorism planned by George W. Bush and the Republicans.

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Patrick Henry Democratic Club calls on Harry Reid to mount a successful opposition to the Real ID Act (aka Patriot III, the Real Death Camp Act, HR 418) or to resign his Senate leadership position and back one of the Democratic Senators who has shown the courage to oppose the Bush agenda for minority leader.

Passed unanimously on April 26, 2005.

1. Chafee phone is 202 224-2951
Thanx for psoting this ..I called Durbin and Chaffee and said this real ID is a police state that wants to happen and its not going to protect any of us..I get punished with losing my freedoms cuz terrist hit us on 9/11.I further said that the real ID is designed to enrich bush and his pals by taking more money from the middle class..
I also said that I am an honorably discharged VN Combat Veteran who does have ALL his official documents unlike this pres who can't seem to produce any military records of importance.

I also said that I intend to surf my way through the Apocalypse and see ya at the beach!! HA HA![My home is 2 miles from a great beach in RI}

3. I am not sure there are swing votes on this issue
Edited on Tue May-03-05 03:55 PM by Mass
From what I heard, most Senators consider voting for the supplemental conference report, that includes the supplemental. Are there any senators who have said otherwise at this point.

The point being that it is important to call everybody, starting by Reid and Durbin, to make clear this is a problem.
