Let's list all of Bush's positive accomplishments thus far |
|
I know that sarcasm will reign supreme but let's see if we can actually find 3 things he has done right.
After reading Clinton's book, it is amazing what he was able to achieve despite personal attacks and unfriendly congress. Now, the Republicans control everything and nothing seems to be going right in this country. I feel that the tide won't turn slowly but when people wake up in this country, the backlash is going to be major.
Is it conceivable that this administration will leave office after 8 years without doing one good thing for the country. Even Reagan and Nixon had a few bright spots.

1) He didn't blame 9/11 on Muslims.
2) When he threw the first pitch at the ball-game post-9/11 he looked presidential.
Dammit, I can't think if a third thing.
ON EDIT: The do not call list.

while he personally may not have blamed it on Muslims... |

I'm sure some of his surrogates out there did. It's how he appears as "moderate" while his base still gets excited by having non-white folks to blame for their troubles.
And, I didn't hear him disavow Robertson & Falwell blaming 9/11 on gays, the ACLU & feminists.

and the hopeful killing of the inheritence tax where taxed money is taxed again...
But there I'm with the republicans because I watched the IRS destroy my father's estate to the point where there was only 30,000 left out of what was 70-fold higher for the initial number.

when you say "and the hopeful killing of the inheritance tax where taxed money is taxed again".
Inheritance tax is not money taxed again. If that was the case, then all money are taxed again.
When I receive a salary it comes from some one who have paid taxes on that amount, who received it from someone who had it taxed and so on.
Why should I pay taxes on money I receive as part of a salary, but you should not because you receive it as a gift?
Makes no sense at all.
By eliminating the inheritance tax, we are creating an aristocracy. The very same thing that the founding fathers prevented when they started the inheritance tax.

36. It probably is. This is a non-argument used by the GOP to misinform... |
|
Soon after the GOP seized Congress in 1994, I watched a "town hall" meeting with Rep. Dick Armey (R-TX) (back then, I really thought they were "town hall" meetings and not some staged event to look like a "town hall" meeting). Anyway, he took "questions" from the "audience" (back then I really thought they really were "questions," and not pre-scripted questions with prescripted answers in order to highlight and advance an agenda; and really thought the "audience" was just that--his constituents--and not some shills put there to ask the "questions").
Anyway, the fellow blabbered on about how he stood to inherit a certain amount of money soon and how he felt it wrong that he had to pay taxes on it. Rep. Armey went along with this guy and stated that's why we had to eliminate inheritance taxes. Having just received an inheritance due to the death of my mother, I knew a little something about the inheritance tax. I didn't pay anything since it was way under the minimum amount and suspected this guy would also not pay taxes as well. I thought Rep. Armey would tell him about the cutoff amount and how he shouldn't worry, but no dice.
It was misinformation, pure and simple...

39. That was what I thought. |

I got the best lawyer I could afford and ended up still getting next to nothing. The feds found every excuse they could to take nearly every cent out of my father's estate after he died. Personally, I could see an inheritence tax, had it been reasonable, yet when my father died the IRS found excuse after excuse to steal every penny they could from my father's estate.
This even included that when the IRS discovered that an employee had been stealing from his business to estimate how much had been stolen and backtaxing that amount to his estate so they could gain as much money as they could.
In the end what the IRS didn't get, my lawyer did for trying to defend his estate. As far as I'm concerned the inheritence tax is nothing but a scam where the government still uses every excuse they can to steal money.
If it actually worked the way it was supposed to. If the Inheritence tax actually worked the way it should, I could find it acceptable. I agree with Bill Gates that the superrich like him should have an inheritence tax, I see no ptoblem with the IDEA of 1.5 million being a good cutoff point for an inheritence before taxes start to be applied, yet even than the idea of it being 60% seems more than a buit usury when one considers that even under Clinton 45% was the highest direct taxation point.
In my humble opinion we do need a tax system overhaul, but not where only the rich get the tax breaks and the poor get their backs broken, at the same time, it would have been nice if my father's death hadn't been taxed so much that his business could have been continued, or even had a chance.

Carter: Amnesty for Vietnam protesters who went to Canada.
Reagan: The release of the hostages (yes, it was phoney and a set up, but it was good to see on that day and we didn't find out the truth for awhile)
Clinton: Opening the door for Gays in the Military ( even though he backed off under rethuglican pressure, he did do "don't ask, don't tell")
**: Ordered that there be THREE flavors of jelly in the white house kitchen for his PB & J sandwiches! He also refused to ride in a limo because of the "Statehood For D.C." slogan on the license plate and demanded it's removal. RUNNING from protesters!

I love that footage of the limo |
|
They stop, apparently trying to ascertain whether blivet and Laura can do the last, what is it, 100-yard walk? to the presidential platform.
Then, upon being pelted with everyone's left-over salad, the Secret Service guns the black limo and speeds through the protesters like a criminal leaving the scene of the crime!
The next great moment was at the 2004 swearing in, where upon an ORANGE (oh, the irony there!) hit Cheney's limo square on.

13. well, I believe he is very popular with horses. they seem to always want |
|
to follow him around. So much so, that he is now terrified of the horses. Now, I can't be sure why the horses follow him and love him so much, but I think I know the answer.
someone (can't remember who) recently told a story of how they took their dog to the vet for artificial insemination. Well, the vet doesn't do this surgically, but rather gets what he needs from the male dog by hand, if you know what I mean.
after getting the "material" for insemination it's put into the female.
the male dog, this person said, loves the vet now. Loves to go to the vet. Well, it may not be true love, but I think this may be why those horses always follow shrub and he always has to run from them.

14. This is the very question I would like to ask Bush supporters. |
|
The fact that anyone supports him at all is inexplicable to me. What I see in his first term (and the first part of his second) is an unbroken chain of failure.
Bush has bankrupted our treasury, killed tens of thousands in an expensive, unnecessary war, trashed America's reputation throughout the world, poisoned our air and water, trampled the Constitution, eliminated and outsourced our jobs, raised our health-care costs, increased poverty in America, tolerated corporate and government corruption, infused the government with an intolerant, extreme form of Christianity, denigrated scientific achievement, and divided our nation. He has sent America hurtling backward towards Third-World status. And through it all he has lied, lied, lied to the American people and to the world. His administration is a permanent stain on our history.
Oh, but yeah, the "do not call" list is great.

Control of this alliance has finally gotten out of the hands of the GOP and into the hands of the Religious Right, after decades of the opposite being true. How much Bush had to do with that I don't know, but it happened on his watch.

For the children of the very rich, he made it easier to get into the best schools.
For his buddies at Halliburton, he increased their wealth and made their stock options valuable again.
But the rest of us, well we got worse than squat. We got attacked, killed, our pockets picked, our bill of right trashed and our private lives snooped into.
