How many more will die in Iraq before people say it's time to withdraw? |
|
Today, almost 1600 troops have been killed and tens of thousands have been seriously or permanently injured. If, one year from now, another thousand have died and the "insurgency" is still as strong, will the public still be supportive of the war? Will they still accept the "We are winning the war" mantra? How much more of this "kool-aid" can these people drink before they have to take a piss??

1. We are one large and successful attack on our troops... |
|
Away from a huge societal tipping point. I do not doubt that it is coming, either. These guys are just gonna keep coming and they are gonna be successful. Just the law of averages.
When that happens...shift.

2. Hell what about the cost |
|
They're telling me its hard to find funds for my schools and roads and social programs while I build up all of these things in another country?
I'm ALL for helping other countries, but not when our own house is in such terrible financial shape.

4. The answer my friend is blowing in the wind |
|
And the wind says that high gas prices, the attack on Social Security and the lastest spike in war casualties means that the tipping point is a lot closer than it was in November.

5. Not unless our troops are like the nazis in WW II Iraq will ........ |
|
...... forever be a bloody hole in which we will through our people, money, and national honor. Do the math 130,000 troops in a Country of about 24,000,000 of which I would bet 18,000,000 want us dead and or gone. I am talking about a blood hate that means Iraqis now see us as the devil. So not unless we are like the Gestapo who would shoot 200 villagers for every German troop who was killed during the occupation the numbers are against us.
Once again thank you George "Shithead" Bush & your PNAC pals.

7. 10,000 U.S. Military dead |
|
If larger engagements start to materialize, say an attack on Fort Zinderneuf or a targeting of a company-sized unit, it may be earlier than that. Sadly, though, it seems that the Civil War dynamic is more on the minds of the insurgents than freedom-fighting.
We will probably see more and more small engagements and ambushes, and these are very easily buried in the news. Should a sizeable engagement occur, we can probably beat it back--although in a Pyrrhic victory--and sell it as some kind of "victory".
It's all so small, so far away, so confusing and so controlled by propaganda, that it will probably take some serious events and just the accumulation off small ones to finally sicken people.
Who knows?
