What would be different if Democrats were in control ? |
|
And if they did nothing, wouldn't that be better than the changes the right-wing are trying to do at this time? Sometimes the status quo may be preferred?
However, if the Democrats did regain the House, what should be their agenda? Should they be timid or bold? Should they roll back the Bush taxcuts? Should they take this opportunity to fix Social Security responsibly, by raising the cap and raising the minimum wage once they roll back the Bush tax cuts? And what should they do about healthcare? What should they do about Iraq? What should they do about outsourcing of jobs? What should they do about the UN? There are so many problems that this Administration is leaving for the next. They had better be bold and they will need a big shovel.

1. They should be bold...too much crap to fix in this country |
|
Too much to do and none of the things to do should be done timidly. Espicially on Iraq since every day buddies are dying and getting maimed out there, that should be top priority.

2. Not much would be different |
|
Unless we dedicate ourselves to riding herd on them 24/7. Neither party will do anything FOR the people unless we demand that they are responsible AND responsive TO the PEOPLE!
But what do I know?

3. bluster about turning America into a "christian" nation |

by rewriting the constitution would be considered quaint and precious and kind of crackpot, instead of an all out assault on democracy.

5. There are too many Blue Dog Democrats in the house right now |
|
There are 41 Blue Dog Democrats which vote with corporate lobbyists every time. Even if Democrats got control of the House, these Blue Dog Democrats would sink any progressive bill proposed, and they would join with GOPers to force through the same crap which is going through right now.

6. Oh, the list! The List Goes On! |
|
1) reinstate the estate tax 2) reinstate capital gains tax cuts 3) abolish corporate personhood 4) end the drug war 5) destroy corporate "health" insurers, create nationalized health-care system we can choose to use or not 6) cut the military budget and redistribute budget funds. 8. A good economic policy fixes almost everything |
|
Shift the tax burden back to the wealthy, the middle class will grow, the income gap will shrink, poverty will shrink, and the deficit will shrink. Once that happens, things get easier in a hurry.
Simple Clintonomics.
After that, fix the environment and develop a sane energy policy, so that our future viability isn't completely in the hands of foreign powers who hate us. That will also decrease our military expenses.
It's nice the way doing what is right and sane also has the best economic results. Republicans should try it.

11. Gawd .... there's SO much to do .... but the operative word for me |
|
is BOLD.
The country as a whole seems (if polls are anywhere near accurate) to want what we're selling. We should go for it all. The whole magilla.
My dream is on January 20, 2008, immediately after our guy is sowrn in, he does his immitation of monkeyboy ... march into the Rotunda, sit at a photo-op-located desk and sign an executive order suspending every fucking piece of shit legislation that was passed the previous 8 years and require that Congress consider it all, all over again. Futher, that same executive order would undo every nasty little rule change they've put on every nasty Friday afternoon in every one of their diabolical Friday Night Dumps. That's where a whoooooole lot of the damage has been done ... little one word 'rule' changes to this rule or that procedure. We don't even **know** what they've undo or put into place.
I'm typing this and getting REALLY FUCKING STEAMED! These people are lower than whale shit.
