Neither the press nor the Democrats know how to report or challenge Bush.. |
|
The press, especially, seems to be at a loss to report even the most obvious mistakes and lies, and sometimes, illegalities. When they are challenged, the Bush Administration co-opts every question with a huge lie or an excuse. Just as when they are asked about WMDs being the reason we invaded Iraq. The Bush crowd has given several different responses to the question and their feet are never held to the fire. They ignore the criticism. Eventually, it disappears as another crisis takes its place. Nothing is ever resolved. Serious questions of illegalities are never resolved.
The press is left looking like water-carriers for the Administration. In effect, that is exactly what they are. Even with a minimum standard of competence, they would not let these folks escape these charges with the simple explanations offered. One cannot help but wonder to what limit they could take this? When would the press just say, "Wait just a goddam minute. You have lied here and we need an explanation. No more bullshit!"
As for the Democrats, they do not have the determination or the persistence required to keep the heat on this Administration. They are always fighting from a defensive position. Even with a popular program such as Social Security, they cannot take the offensive from Bush. Unfortunately, they are the epitome of incompetence.

1. You are speaking of those in Congress, right? |
|
Because where determination and persistence are concerned, there are many on this board with both.

3. Bush's recent sham press conference was an example of this |
|
He lied through his teeth on national TV about his Social Security Scam and the validity of the SS Trust Fund by claiming that it was a bunch of worthless "IOUs."
Almost all of the "news" media refused to report and correct his lies.
And the Dems have played it so smugly that one can almost see how they will snatch DEFEAT from the jaws of VICTORY re SS privatization.
It is the job of the press and the Dems to get the message out about Bush's lies.

4. I can understand why the press doesn't do it. |
|
They're pretty much owned by the same people who own the Presidency right now.
The Democrats on the other hand, will simply drive themselves further and further into irrelevancy if they don't really stand up and fight and be a real opposition party. I've got a feeing that they just don't know how. They're not adapted to the new political reality in this country, and, like dinosaurs, they may not be able to survive it. I think many of them just don't even grasp the reality of what the Republican party has turned into.
