1. Just give all the real estate to Halliburton |
|
They'll think of something.
Like refineries in every back yard!
What does that have to do with fighting terra, you ask?
About as much as anything else BushCo is doing...zilcho. Nada. But it'll provide a lot of free real estate to BushCo cronies.

2. They're not really "closing" them |
|
so much as just MOVING them to Afghanistan and Iraq.

also destroying our military!! no one wants to fight in his personal vendetta wars and oil grabs, recruitment is going down instead of up like it was supposed to, this is leaves the bases partially unused.
the U.S. military was much stronger under President Clinton and more respected world wide than it is now.

6. Yes, and that was in relatively peaceful times |
|
You know, back when Saddam was pigeon-holed in his country and unable to mount any attack on any other country.
Yet Clinton was painted as a "military hater" - for being (a Dem) President when the closures set in motion by his predecessor took effect.
So now, we're "at war" - and we're closing up shop. Hmm. (And making improvements to the buildings and grounds of facilities we're going to abandon in the near future - Brecksville, Ohio for one.)

7. Not only that but the base closings during the 90's were the result of |
|
SEC DEF DICK CHENEY and pres bushwimp the first! You remember the "Peace Dividend" base closings. I have no problem with competent people reviewing the country's bases and making the military stronger by cutting waste but the KEY is that the people doing this be COMPETENT!! And NOT ONE of these fuckers in charge today come even fucking CLOSE to qualifying!

8. Big fears here in Virginia |
|
Will cost the state BILLIONS in unemployment and loss of jobs/business revenue.
I'm thinking of writing a letter to our local paper to make sure everyone realizes this is THE REPUBLICANS doing this.

9. Well, look at the bright side... |
|
with the $48.8 Billion that is saved over the next 20 years, we'll be able to stay in Iraq a couple extra weeks.
Did anyone else hear the Repuke on the news saying that this money saved will help provide our sons and daughters with the best possible equipment to defend our country? That they deserve nothing less?
I agree with the last sentence, but if the $300+ billion spent over the last couple years hasn't been able to accomplish that goal, how can he even suggest such a thing with a straight face?
Worse yet, a good portion of Americans will lap it up, as usual.

11. anything that reduces the MIC is good with me |

we DO NOT NEED a military of this size. it is a ridiculous drain on the budget & in many ways, a defacto welfare program for industry, munincipalities, & familes of servicemen.
if you were/are in the military, sorry. thanks for "defending america" and all that. but there's no justification for spending as much as we do.
