Can anyone tell me
how did the people under Communist rule overthrow their Government? How did they break away from the propaganda and find the truth? I need to use this as a conversation starter with my Repub Son.

2. I believe the foundation started to erode when the economic underpinings

got so bad that the people were literally starving.

I read somewhere that it was the war in Afghanistan that finally forced the USSR on the road to economic ruin and ultimately to the bankruptcy that led to the breakup of the USSR.

Contrary to what the Neocons say it was not Reagan who should get credit for the breakup of the USSR.
It was actually a misguided, underplanned war that drained all the finances and all the young people and heart and soul out of the people that ultimately led to the downfall of the USSR.

It was a war that they were doomed to lose from the very start.

Deja vu anyone?

3.  depends on which version of history you want..
I believe Gorbachev facing a stagnated economy and a restless population moved in the direction of Glasnost (openness).
It was his hope that the people of the USSR would help solve some of the problems facing his nation.
This resulted in a chain of events ....

I really believe it was a grass roots movement.

Version 2

Ronald Reagan in his great and infinite wisdom ....

:puke: sorry that's all I can handle of version 2
