4. Even the rightwing shills over at the Wall Street Journal
Have Bush's approval/disapproval at 47/47. You just can't shine a turd.

7. Yep I posted those poll numbers in GD.
When even a WSJ poll has respondents saying they'd rather have a Dem congress after '06 than a republican one, you know things aren't going so well.

5. And it's hard to see the trick that will turn around

the hearts and minds of the 365 million people he's lied to (Just counting the people in this country).

I wonder...we talk about all the technical things...money, troop deaths, oil....but perhaps...just maybe there is something even more fundamental in play here.

Americans have a huge cultural myth about being the GOOD GUY. Believe the truth of it or not...Americans were raised to believe they SHOULD wear the White hat...save the damsel in distress...and receive the cheers of the admiring crowds.

And Bush has pissed this away for us. WE DESPERATELY WANT PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD TO HAVE THE AMERICAN DREAM BECAUSE IT MAKES US FEEL SPECIAL.

But it's now becoming so obvious that it can't be ignored...no one likes us anymore. The world is snearing instead of smiling. They are throwing tomatos (or worse) instead of confetti. Bush's actions have become so overt, grubby, and greedy that we can't look in the mirror and admire our stylish figure and fine clothes without seeing the smudges, rips, and tears.

Our self image has been tarnished. And I think America's self image has been our defining feature for most of our history. So as it goes...so goes Bush's support.

We're hearing too many jeers now to not notice that they aren't whistles and applause...and we so much need that applause.

The LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME TELL ME I'M PRETTY TELL ME I'M PRETTY culture that is America isn't getting its fix.

First we'll tantrum (that's what's happening now). Then we'll start hunting for who tore our party dress.

In the end, perhaps this narcissism will save us. Odder things have happened.

8. Like many others, I can't believe it's even that high
But, like so many have said, about 33% are so delusional in their support. That sounds like a better number for approval than 43.
