NY Times Chimes in about Secret Downing Street Memo...still no fox story

Just as I was logging off, I noticed the following -- in Friday editions, the New York Times finally chimes in on the Downing Street Memo. To be fair, the Times reported on this shortly after it became an issue in the British elections. However, this is the first time the Times has reported it in the context of its consequences for the United States government, as opposed to the Blair government. I have no doubt that the belated, but appreciated, reporting on this is the result of citizen interest and activism and internet acitivism in particular. Congrats.

We still have yet to see the insistent and repeated inquiries from then press about the contradictions this document brings to light. If a President deceives to the American people on matters of war and peace, that -- in my view -- is the most serious type of abuse of power. This story has yet to be treated with that degree of gravity.

By the way, where is Fox News?

1. only way faux will mention it . . . .

2. What is Dean(Chairman of DNC) or Kerry, Hillary or Reid saying???
Edited on Fri May-20-05 12:56 PM by Dr Fate
Surely these top, important, quotable, high-profile LEADERS have taken the bull by the horns and at least uttered one sentence about this.

We know FOX does not want this put out there- but what have the the TOP DEMS said????

3. "This story has yet to be treated with that degree of gravity."
My first objection to a Conyers quote.

EXCPEPT in the blogosphere......but I'll forgive him.

This is why we must spread the information without the "help" of the corporate media.

I'm going to keep kicking this until DU recognizes John Conyers' position and advocacy!

7. This is important to me too.
I'm concerned about the lack of coverage on this issue and support your effort to keep this higly visible. Are there other threads I can look at to get a bigger picture of how the media is handling or mishandling the Downing Street Memo?

Thanks mucho.

10. DU recognizes it- they are just ashamed of the Top DEMs.
They know that they can't give Conyers props without asking themselves why Dean, Kerry, Reid, Hillary or whoever will not say a single word about it.

They know they cant blame the media for why no one will talk about this anymore, so they are now ignoring the issue all together.

The word at DU is that this is "old news" and "EVERYONE already knows about it" and that it is a "wise strategy to ignore it, since it wont do any good."

Pretty much the same thing Bush & the media are saying, give or take a few phrases.

8. Most DUers think Iraq is "Old News" and that DEMs should be silent.
Beleive it or not, many DUers are saying this, and attacking the loyalty of anyone who dares say that the Top DEMs should back up Conyers.

Just check out the two threads in GDP on Dean's MTP appearence- every excuse under the sun is made for why it was a good idea for Dean to ignore this.

Conyers has been left twiting in the wind once again.

This issue is offically dead- stick a fork in it.
