“Based on some of the comments ... it seems as if the Senate should be a rubber stamp, that we should just approve every judge that comes down the line and not do anything with the advise-and-consent role. That is not the way I read the Constitution.”
Sen. Ted Kennedy? No. It was former Republican Sen. Bob Smith of New Hampshire, defending the use of the filibuster to block Clinton judicial nominees Marsha L. Berzon and Richard A.. Paez on the Senate floor March 9, 2000.
But let’s say, arguendo, that Republicans are not being disingenuous, and that the majority should always get its way.
According to the latest census, Senate Democrats represent 3.6 million more Americans than Republicans, even though there are fewer of them. The “blue” states are much more populous than the “red” states. Hence, Senate Republicans represent the minority.

I'll gladly add that the 6 or 7 "RINO's", some of whom who oppose the nuclear option,(along with a lot of other loony GOP stances) would get beaten by a Dem in their states if they weren't so moderate; consider Specter, Chaffee or Snow to name a few. This only amplifies the whole "Majority, Minority" debate.
