Those crazy republicans are at it again
DURHAM, North Carolina (AP) -- Three large crosses were burned in separate spots around the city during a span of just over an hour, and yellow fliers with Ku Klux Klan sayings were found at one location, police said.

The cross burnings Wednesday night marked the first time in recent memory that one of the South's most notorious symbols of racial hatred has been seen in the city.

"At this day and time, I thought we'd be beyond that," said Mayor Bill Bell. "People do things for different reasons, and I don't have the slightest idea why anyone would do this."

Racism crosses party lines.

13. No. I am saying that Republican does not always mean racist
and that Democrat does not always mean non-racist.

4. It's not right to say that the Republicans were behind this. . .
until you have actual proof. Even though I disagree strongly with Republicans, claiming a connection between them and the KKK is just spurious name-calling. I know they do it all the time by linking Democrats to communists and now the Nazi Party, but we are above these kind of vicious attacks.

10. "Above" these vicious attacks?
*sigh* I guess we are, sadly. We'll just go right on being nice and playing by the rules, and when we're shuffling into the concentration camps and then the execution chambers, we'll have the great satisfaction of knowing that we told the truth. Bully for us. Think I'm exaggerating? Think back 5 years. Did you EVER think it would get as bad as it is? Extend things 5-10 years into the future at the same rate of deterioration....

;( :scared:

7. fucking north carolina - this is so over the line
what has happened over there. If these people aren't put in check soon, what will they be up to next. My mother is from N.C. and this shit really pisses me off. Ignorance is one thing, but this should not be allowed to stand. Where are the vigilantes when you need them? (Sarcasm)

8. A lot of the ultra racist nuts don't identify with either major party.
They have their own nationalist or reconstructionist parties, if they're political at all. It's not right to categorize these klansmen without knowing.

9. Question
A little off topic but maybe someone can explain something to me that I've long wondered about....why is it that the RW goes absolutely crazy when someone burns a US flag but it's ok for them to burn a cross? Both are supposedly sacred symbols to them. I don't get it. What's the history/reason behing cross-burning? I admit, I don't know.

11. As I recall
It initially had to do with destroying a Catholic cross. The KKK really hates Catholics and Jews.
