I don't get Voinivich's tears
You passed Bolton through the committee, you idiot! You could have stopped him, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you turned him over to the full Senate for another lockstep Repuke vote.

Anybody else care to explain this?

1. My guess would be he's selling out on some person or some idea

that still remains vital and alive in his normally cool heart.

Too afraid to make a stand, but still hoping he hasn't sold someone or something down the river that he cares about.

3. He could have wanted the information
he has to become available to those outside the committee but it was a huge risk because it may not work.

4. I think it has something to do with "arm-twisting"
Probably threats that "You can vote against him on the floor, but you can't block him from a vote." Knowing, of course, that they would have the votes to confirm.

Remember J. Edgar Hoover? I'm sure the kind of files Edgar kept are still being compiled on every politician in America.

5. That man has been beaten up
Can you imagine what Cheney has said to him, and his Repub collegues because it was his action that prevented a vote out of committee with a recommendation?

He's been beaten up, insulted, you name it. I'd get teary too.

9. some tears are hypocritical, some tears are remorseful, some tears are
sincere, some tears are a cover up for ... whatever ... i didn't see the voinovich speech but there seems to be a lot of incongruency between his tears and warning --and his having earlier proceeded to vote bolton through committee on to a full senate vote.

DIAGNOSIS; MOOD INCONGRUENT...big question, does voinovich suffer from a mood disorder, in which case, is his judgment impaired--and, if it is impaired was that what caused it to vote bolton through committee on to a full senate vote.

it is almost like an old spanish or cuban song the lyris of which are about a man questioning how is it possible to love two women at the same time. As the lyrics go, he goes on to describe one of the women as his wife, his companion of many years, his friends. the other woman he describes as that one who has awakened passion in him and he says, he loves them both--a fact, which, he says, does not render him crazy and he is not willing to give either one up.

well...too much ambivalence can create a hell .....
and, it seems voinovich either truly found himself in a hell yesterday on the floor of the senate--or just pretended to find himself in one.

as i said above, i did not watch the speech. i've been reading about it since yesterday.

10. Cognitive dissonance.
The two contradictory truths in his head - "I am a Republican" and "Republicans are not acting in the best interests of the United States"

are causing a problem.
