Edited on Thu May-26-05 05:56 PM by wildflower
Some surprises:

Frist voted no, Voinovich voted Yea, Lieberman and Feinstein voted No.

I'm stunned.

49. Frist's vote was no mistake
He voted yes at the beginning and switched his vote to no at the end. What he did was clever. See to make a motion to reconsider, you have to be on the winning side of a cloture vote. When Frist saw that they didn't have the 60 votes needed, he switched his vote so he could make the motion to reconsider.

I think it is WAY to early to celebreate, this only delays Bolton, and the democrats (for whatever reason) said they're not going to filibuster him in the future. We still need to make phone calls and do whatever it takes to sway undecideds to our side so that when the inevitable up-or-down vote on Bolton comes, we can get the 51 votes needed to stop him.

30. Just as how Kerry's votes were "procedural"
when he was described as first voting yes, and then voting no.

We can nail Frist with the same confusion when campaigning against him!

First he voted No, and then he voted Yes!

What's good for the goose is good for the gander!

16. Frist voting Nay is a procedural tactic
It will allow him to bring the matter up for a vote at a later date.

Voting Nay when his side is losing is part of his job.

Its not about momentum
Two things:

1) This was discussed with the Magnificent 7. They knew this would happen earlier this week.

2) Old school conservatives don't want another war. Voting for Bolton is a vote for war.
