Andrew Sullivan Threatened?
http://www.andrewsullivan.com/

"EMAIL OF THE DAY: "I would hope to see you over here in theater running your pie-hole about your calls to remove Marines from their post for the 'New Testament' inscription on the main battle tank. You would be buried with your insurgent 'friends' that you support, through your criticism of our men and women dying for this mission with a bulldozer.
For your safety, I would not even be around soldiers, airmen, or marines. Treason is a high crime and misdemeanor and the price is quite high. Your actions border on treason. You could not survive the long days, enemy in-direct and direct fire, and high demands that our soldiers today execute in 100 degree weather. You would have to have a rucksack full of Vagisil for your clam pal to make it a week here.
Most of us are Christians and will continue to support our faith in any way we see fit. Do the right thing: support us or STFU !!!!!!!!!!" - from a soldier in Iraq."

Not a very Christian email...

1. We need to start calling these people "phony Christians"...
because that's what they are. And also those who act stealthly while running for school boards, etc. Would Jesus hide who he is and what he's about? Would he threaten others with a bulldozer? Use the term liberally :) - PHONY CHRISTIANS

4. I like it, but...
I think "phony Christians" is easier to understand. Maybe I'm just being elitist :), but I'm afraid your term would just confuse many people.

5. I agree...the left is making a HUGE mistake
Dont get drawn into this whole anti-Christian sentiment, only because the right is representing themselves AS Christians...we will lose this one, and we will lose it BIG.

the divide and conquer tactic. I would not put it past the bad guys to do such things as salt the blogs with "Lefty Rants against the Christians" in order to further divide up the country.

excuse to hate.

25. No. Those of us who follow Christ's teaching are Christians, no modifier
should be necessary in our case.

Those can be properly termed the religiously insane.

I shouldn't have to defend following the word of Christ. Those who distort, lie, and pass judgment should be made to defend themselves.

6. Wait, did I miss something?
Did Andy Sullivan cross over from the darkside to merit this rebuke from the Talibornagain? Or is he just not enough of an extremist for the knuckle dragging religiofascists and corpo-aristocracy of the Bushtistas?

13. Yes, Did I too? What did Randy Andy do to deserve this?
The only 100 degree heat Mr. Conflicted himself, (religion, sex, you name it), has been exposed to is a quickie in Palm Springs on his way to bash his fellow gays in SF.

Like you were told Andy, your fall from grace as a tool would not be pleasant, and us fellow gays will not welcome you with open arms.

16. He's a fairly independent thinker...though wrong-headed alot of the times
This was interesting from his blog:

"REWARDING FAILURE: It's a Bush administration meme. If you screw up, you get promoted, as long as you're a team player. If you really screw up, you get a Medal of Freedom. If you screw up to such an extent that it cannot be ignored, then you find a couple of low-level grunts to scapegoat. If you get something right, but Cheney got it wrong, you're fired. Is this really a way to win a war?"

David Brock was brought to the light, could Sullivan be next?

I'm not sure I want him, though, but then, I would have said the same about Brock.

(of course I can't find the thread)of the turret of a gun on a tank in Iraq with a big "New Testament" sign in tape pasted on it. I suspect that Mr. Sullivan was objecting to that.

find an Iraqi tank hit by a warthog, step close and breath deeply while you ponder why we liberals are as we are, breath deeply that "freedom" which you inflicted upon the newly "liberated" and breath deeply of that same irradiated nuclear dust which now permeates their air..... in a few years your attitude will change, with luck those who you wish to shut up may have made a difference and will have worked hard for a cure to your new ailments. :patriot:

21. Two thoughts...
For your safety, I would not even be around soldiers, airmen, or marines. Treason is a high crime and misdemeanor and the price is quite high. Your actions border on treason.

(1) I'm thinking about the high number of journalists who have been killed (executed?) doing their jobs over there...

Most of us are Christians and will continue to support our faith in any way we see fit.

(2) I'm also thinking that if this illegal war is being promoted to the troops as a crusade, it will only cause more hatred toward our country, putting us in greater danger.

Is our country being led by the anti-Christ? You do have to seriously wonder.

"Most of us are Christians and will continue to support our faith in any way we see fit."

By this, of course, he means "supporting his faith" by taking out as many Muslims as he can.

How terribly regressive. And definitely not Christ-like.

30. The question remains, at least for me:
What does an openly gay man like Andrew Sullivan find so appealing about the Republican Party?

By and large, they hate him (and those like him) and everything he stands for, really. He says he's a fiscal conservative who believes in a smaller government. That sounds like the Democratic Party as compared to the Bushies... am I right?

I just don't understand what gays, minorities, and even women find in the Republican Party. Each of those groups is despised by the largest part of that Party. And they are legislated against constanly by them. What's up with that?

34. The problem with people like Sullivan..
..is that when they say they want smaller government, they mean reduced governmental power to protect its citizens from the abuses of the powerful. Bloated defense spending is fine.
