Softball Question of the Day:
What's with this culture of deference at Presidential news conferences? What happened to aggressive follow-ups? Pointed, fact-based questions? Who is David Greene and who did he blow to get access to the WH? Christ on a cracker, people!

THE CHIMPEROR: Let's see here -- David Greene. Did you have your hand up?

Q I did, sir. Thank you very much, Mr. President. At the Naval Academy last week you spoke of a midshipman named Edward Slavis, who graduated and has served in Iraq. And you quoted him as saying that the mission will be a success, and 20 or 30 years from now historians will look back on it and consider it America's golden moment.

BUNNYPANTS: Yes.

Q I'm wondering, sir, if you agree with that assessment, and, if so, why?

COMMANDER CUCKOOBANANAS: I do, David, because I believe that as a result of the actions we have taken, we have laid -- begun to lay the foundation for democratic movement that will outlast this administration; a democratic movement that will bring peace to a troubled part of the world. And I figure we've got the resources to pretty much torture and kill everyone in that part of the world who disagrees with us, and most Americans are too busy tryin' ta pay them 30% credit card bills an' watchin' Despert Housewives to give a flyin' fuck about HOW we bring them A-rabs freedom an' Democracy, long as we do it--even if it means killin' every dern one of 'em, or rippin' their balls off with Vice Grips. Stretch?

3. Yes, it was. And 20 to 30 years from now, America will look
back and realize that I was that golden hind.

6. "Mr. President, do you remember when you had that megaphone...
... and you were standing on the pile of rubble?"

BUSH: Yes

"...and you put your arm around that elderly firefighter, and you were speaking to the crowd?"

BUSH: mmm hmmm

"...and you said that pretty soon the people who knocked the buildings down would be hearing from all of us?"

BUSH: yes.

"That was AWESOME, don't you think?"

7.  Why in the hell doesn't one fed-up JOURNALIST
(if there are such things anymore) with WH credentials just one day decide "to hell with it, I'm gonna sk something tough!"

Have the balls to do it, and see if a few others follow suit. So what if they aren't asked back? So Bunnypants preaches to an empty room? What the eff difference does it make?

I was in my early teens when I watched Helen Thomas hardball them to
Tricky Dicky.

Neither one of them played nice, and damn if we didn't get the truth then.

8. Professional suicide.
Presumably they have families to support, just like you and me. Checked out the cost of living in metro DC lately? Still, you're right. They're not journalists--they're stenographers. There's no interest in stirring the pot, or really examining the subtext. It's a damn shame.

And I remember old HT from my youth, too--God, how Nixon must've hated her. Yet he, at least, had the balls to call on her. Unlike the Chimp in Chief.
