Clinton discussing Hillary on Larry King: This is going to be hard to stop
It just occured to me watching Bill Clinton on Larry King now, how powerful it's going to be when he is out there campaigning in the primaries with his wife, saying she has the best mind for policy and leadership, etc, he has ever seen.

Yeah, you can say he's biased, but it's going to be pretty powerful stuff.

I don't think any other senator will be able to compete with her in the primaries. I think anyone who competes with her needs to bring something more unique to the table than that.

When Bill Clinton said Hillary and Clark were "the two rising stars of the Democratic Party," his political instincts were dead-on.

29. Very intriguing prospect!
A bit too much to the right for my taste, but it is a taste that I must get used to. We must get rid of the rightwing in 2008 or else I am moving to Canada!

2. His wife is being pushed by the GOP and their tame media
Rank and file Democrats have other ideas.

It'll be interesting to see if the DLC crams her down our throats.

I guarantee Jebbie will be in the White House in 2009.

8. Bill Clinton I have always thought has impeccable political instincts.
I can't believe he would push Hillary out of merely blind devotion to his wife if he didn't believe she really had a chance.

Then again, they do say love always blinds you.

7. Hillary will be a great candidate
I agree, she will be difficult to stop in 2008, regardless if her opponent is a Democrat or a Republican. The polling data already indicates this.

I get the feeling most people oppose Hillary deep down because they want someone else to win. The fear of her getting stomped by the GOP isn't rational.

13. I don't think the fear of her getting stomped by the GOP is irrational.
Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 08:38 PM by Clarkie1
I think it's irrational to think anyone can't be beat.

Hillary is a big unknown. It is difficult to gauge how the American populace would react to the first woman nominee, and how the national seurity dynamic would play out in the context of whatever the future brings. I guess I just don't like that unknown. A defeat in 08' would be tragic for the party.

I think Clark is a safer bet to win, and I think Hillary might win but she is a riskier bet. Putting aside my own personal preference, I don't think the party can afford that much risk in 08'. It's just not the time to be throwing dice.

Edit: Here's what I mean by risky, using a specific example.

If there is a national security crises in 08' on top of the current poltical dynamic since 9/11, and it is a Hillary/McCain race, we have no chance.

17. Hillary isn't going to be stomped by the GOP.
The polls already show that a majority support her. There is a large gender gap in the data, which gives a hint how running a woman will play out.

35. Those polls were deceptive: they showed GOP wants her to run
NOT that the GOP favors her being elected. Those polls are to try to convince the money in the Dem party to push Hillary as if they might vote for her (which they will not do)....because the GOP knows that she'll NEVER get the support of the majority of the country.

It's just more manipulation of gullible masses by the republican party. Mind games. That's all republicans are good for. They sure as hell don't know how to run a country.

21. Hey we disagree on a baseball team...but agree about this
I think Hillary will be an outstanding candidate, and is probably the strongest person we could nominate. It's astounding how often we let the Republicans define our candidates for us. So maybe the Republicans are talking up Hillary cause they want to run against her, or maybe they are doing it so we see through that ploy and run someone else. Fuck 'em, they are completely out of touch and have no idea what they would be in for against another Clinton. Jeez, how often are we going to underestimate the Clintons?

24. I'd say Dems were pretty united against Bush in his re-selection
But we still lost anyway. People who say Hillary shouldn't be the nominee because she is polarizing are just being naive because Bush is plenty polarizing and he still "won." She's very smart politically and there is a reason she is trying to position herself as strong on national defense, because it is a political winner. It's unfortunate that she supported IWR, but we'll see how that plays out in 3 years. I think the Democrats are going to have an excellent field of candidates, with Clinton, Clark, Feingold, Warner, Bayh, Edwards, and potentially many others. I suppose I'll thinking about seeing who the candidates are before I actually decide who I'm going to vote for.

22. Maybe Hillary is a Stalking Horse
for Clark and this is the Clinton strategy. Watching Bill gave my the impression he's not as cozy with this administration as he pretends to be.

When he was talking about rove he was smiling and joking but it was almost forced. It's like he's playing a game with these assholes.

23. I think Clinton may have had ulterior motives in making that statement
about Clark (and it wasn't to help out Clark). I don't think he really did Clark any favors in 2004. I think Clinton and his wife are major users.

37. There was a point in time when
Dean was the shit and the ball was in Clark's court as to whether he wanted to tacitly link up with him. Clark passed. Probably rightfully so because a primary had yet to be held. But I believe that if Clark had agreed, Dean/Clark would have been the ultimate ticket- bypassing the "electable" one. It was a week or so before the Iowa caucus and there were a lot of non-denial denials being passed between the Dean and Clark camps. Some say that Clark was a stalking horse for the Clinton's and that is why he didn't add his FP cred to the Dean campaign, however, I don't believe that. I believe the simpler reason is that Clark wanted to take his own shot at the top spot. There is the nagging question as to why he skipped Iowa and put himself in an immediate hole, though.

33. The most unifying tool for Repug Theocons is having Hillary as nominee
Bill needs to shut up and stay out of the limelight. He fucked it up for Gore and a lot of Democrats with his bullshit.

The Repug Press has Bill by the balls and plenty of mindless dribble stories to fill the airwaves if Hillary gets the nomination.

I mean...Frist could beat her. That's a truly scary thought.
