NIN is "too political?" You're talking to a youth market, supposedly, and you're worried about being controversial? Are you effing MAD? MTV, listen up...this is the beginning of your end as any sort of relevent voice to anyone. Your decision to forbid NIN from using a photo of the self-annointed President of the World as a backdrop demonstrates to everybody, including your core market, those in their "activist" years you dumbasses, that you're nothing but another mega-corporation and a part of The Problem.

Fuck you MTV. You're now only half a notch above Fox News on my Must Watch list. You sell-out bastard posers.

6. I suppose their demographic doesn't vote anyway, so fuck 'em!
It's not so much that WE watch them, but this is a fucking mega-media outlet supposedly geared toward some sort of "counter-culture" crapola, yet even MTV isn't allowed to dis the president anymore. It's a question of BushCo's infiltration of EVERY FACET of the media. Huffington is nuts when she says this ain't fascism!

11. Earlier
It had to have been between 1986-1988. I was still living in the dorms in college and there was an appalling game show they started airing. Kerry Weir and Colin somebody or other were not, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the show or the actual host. THAT'S when they started going downhill. Music Television? My aunt fanny.

17. I loved remote control.
Now that takes me way back.
I think it got horrible when 70% of the music they started playing was r'n'b.

9. They've been irrelevent for years.
Once they became a life-style/reality show network they lost any significance they once had as a broadcast concern. Even now, what videos they do show are mainstream acts you can hear in any market with more than 5 radio stations.

15. You're missing the point...
I don't watch fuse or MTV or MuchMusic or VH1 or any of 'em. I have digital music on the cable, internet radio, and a zillion songs on my Mac. MTV's relevence to the 60% of us over 40% isn't the point. The point is, MTV still reaches a lot of people. They wouldn't still be on the air otherwise. It is about the message sent by yet another major media outlet -- especially one supposedly geared toward youth (aren't they supposed to be fresh thinkers?) allowing itself to be cowed by the republican party.
