Tonight was the Ohio Democratic Holiday Party and Dennis Kucinich and Jerry Springer were there. DK gave a short, but wonderful speech about how important Ohio will be in 2004 and how proud he is to be an Ohioan. Jerry Springer gave a polished speech about not underestimating Ohio. You would never know he's the same guy with the sleazy talk show.
There were tables with literature, petitions, buttons, etc. for Kerry, DK, Dean, Clark, and Gephardt. None of the bickering on this board was present at the Party. In fact, every volunteer from every campaign went around and signed petitions for all the candidates. It gave me so much more faith that we will come together as a party after the nomination is decided.
Also, DK went out of his way to talk to everyone in the room. I was sitting at the Kerry table and looked up to see DK right in front of me. He said "John is great guy and a friend of mine. Good luck campaigning and be sure to have fun." I, of course, wished him luck too. DK took pictures with the different groups. He was the definition of a gentleman. (And yes, at 6'1" with heels I towered over him.)
The turn out for the Party was great and Ohio is in play in 2004! :)

16. Of course Edwards Kucinich and Kerry all get along. |
|
They all have the hearts of liberal progressives.
I'll have to add Kerry to the gallery below.

I think that's why I was so impressed with him. He seemed genuinely happy to meet anyone who supported the Democratic Party. He also discussed the need for free college and access to medical care. DK wants to make the world better. :)
Kerry's still my guy, but if DK gets the nod, I'll be on his team in a flash.

That's why he has my vote, and my support for as long as he needs it.

Thanks so much for the great stories.... I can picture it just reading your description.
I guess he just proved that courtesy isn't at all stuffy, or stultifying. Imagine. :)
Glad you got that experience... towering over a great man like DK ... well, does it get any better? :) You realize, of course, that I now have terminal envy.
Kanary, looking forward to seeing the picture.... :)

9. sounds like a great holiday party |

Kucinich really is a class act in person. He exudes a certain warmth that is contagious. He is going to be back in Iowa for the next three days and then Sunday an appearance in Malibu that anyone in So Cal should check out. http://www.kucinich.us/schedule.php

13. Kucinich did the same thing |
|
at the California Democratic Council convention in July. We had set up a Dean table and he walked by, shook our hands, and said, "Good luck." We responded, "Good luck to you as well, Congressman."
I attend tons of political events wherein supporters of other candidates (almost exclusively Clark & Kucinich) have set up tables. Funny how we can visit with one another, laugh and joke and never a vitriolic word is spoken.
There's a new guy that is just getting into politics who is a Clark supporter. He's just getting started and calls the Dean supporters for advice, which we are more than happy to give as we are smart enough to understand that WE'RE ALL GOING TO NEED EACH OTHER IN THE END.
This candidate/supporter venom on DU is atypical to real life.
