Thom Hartmann rocks!!!!

"Dean Just Told Them The Truth and They Thought It Was Hell
by Thom Hartmann

This morning I called the Democratic National Committee to tell them that I support Howard Dean's modern-day version of Harry Truman's dictum that, "I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth and they thought it was hell."
<snip>
The simple truth is that corporate interests have hijacked our nation, theocrats want to take us back to the days of the Salem Witch Trials (with gays playing the part of witches), and the "stars" in the corporate "mainstream" media have been so terrified by Bush administration threats of loss of access (which could then lead to the loss of their own 6- and 7-figure income jobs) that they perpetuate administration lies and tremble at the thought of actually asking a tough follow-up question when Bush prevaricates.

Howard Dean points out these uncomfortable truths. And, like the little boy who said that the Emperor had no clothes, those entrenched in the status quo are trying to hush him up.

But the status quo is bankrupting our families, gutting the middle class, putting a bulls-eye on American soldiers and tourists around the world, devastating our environment and our children's future. "

3. I just got that book!
What would Jefferson do is terrific also! He has a great radio show and Ben Burch's White Rose Society archives them.

5. Unequal Protection is the current title of the non-fiction bookclub.
Although, to date, I'm the only one discussing, I would love to have someone else to with whom to discuss this great book!! Even if you get started after June, please consider posting your thoughts, ok?

2. I love that quote
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 09:33 AM by pstans
Dean is great, Hartman is great.

I saw Dean on CSPAN this morning at a DNC meeting yesterday. He was fabolous.

He talked about getting a team of lawyers in every state to work on election reform. They also talked a lot of moral issues. They had some come up and give a presentation on how the exit polls turned out and there was a very good question-answer session on that.

When they were putting away the things from the presentation, Dean said his agenda was underneath the projector, so he would just say a few things. Dean went on about moral values. He said, "The reason the Republicans are in trouble is because there are so many cases where they say one thing and do something else," He said President Bush's education initiative, the "No Child Left Behind" program, cuts school spending and a clean environment plan, the "Clear Skies Initiative," permits more mercury into the water to harm out children. He talked about it being a moral value that kids don't go to bed hungry. He said the Republicans attack on Social Security isn't about money at all, it is about destroying community.

This little improntu speech, was great. You could see the fire in Dean's eye. He was on message. The people in the room loved it.

7. I'd also like to recommend his book
"We the People: A Call to Take Back America"

This is a wonderful little book! It is written comic book fashion & it's basically a refresher course in democracy. Great for adults & children! Buy this book! Read it -- it only takes about an hour to read. Then make your children read it.

I have several copies & give as gifts for whatever occasion.

8. Yes, Hartman is a heroic voice on the airwaves.
and in the printed word. I started listening to him instead of Franken, when Franken refused to talk about election fraud in Ohio. Thom was right on it and has been hammering away at it. He also is so smart and has such a grasp of American and World History, it's like taking a great college course in civics just to listen to him.

10. Thom Hartmann is indeed an amazing and brave Progressive voice..
He now lives in Portland, and his first radio show of the day is at KPOJ. It's from 6-9 Pacific time, and it's excellent. KPOJ streams, and they carry Air America and Big Eddie.
http://www.620knews.com/main.html

After that, he does his other, long-running radio show for Radio Power. They stream Progressive voices throughout the day.

You can also stream Thom's Radio Power show from his website.

http://www.thomhartmann.com/

He has chat and a forum and both seem to be busy during the shows, especially the chat room. He refers to it frequenly, and if he's at a loss for a source or he needs claricfication, he calls on the chat room. This guy is truely a man of the people, and someone who is spritually and politically connected to our Founding Fathers. His shows will make you dizzy with the depth of information and historical context, and he's a decent and funny guy to boot.

11. He makes me dizzy with all that he does in a day!
I usually use the White Rose Society feed, which seems to stream best for me.
