Does this story have "legs" ?
The Downing Street Minutes story? If so, why? If not, why not?

2. It's been discredited .........
.... there was actually coverage of it here in the US as an attempt to screw Blair before the election.

That's simple enough for the American public to understand, Ratface said it, and that's how it will go.

I'm cynical, but I'm old and seen too much, and that's what I think.

3. It's a bit nebulous
And the problem is that the single sentence "But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy." says nothing about illegality, or the fact that the postwar planning wasn't conducted. Its a hazy wording that could mean "lying" or something else.

It does coincide with the "stovepiping" discovered since the war, that the Office of Special Plans sent war-friendly intel straight up to the President and VP to bypass its invalidation by the CIA and intel community.

4. My head says no.
Why? Because I think most Americans already believe Bush lied to them (or deceived them) and have decided to give him a pass. The minutes only reiterate what Clarke and O'Neill already testified to.

It's sad, but lying us into a war doesn't seem to be too disturbing to the sheeple.

7. True, but the war is going badly
This changes the dynamic.

If we weren't losing our soldiers on almost a daily basis the DSM wouldn't make a ripple.

People would shrug their shoulders and say 'ends justify the means'.

However, this isn't the case. The army is over-extended, people are afraid of the draft, Iraq is becoming a money pit and there are other hot spots we need to fear.

All this makes the public restless and angry.

The sheeple allowed themselves to be deceived, but when you deceive and do NOT deliver the end result, the sheeple gets angry. Why? Not for any moral reason but personal self-interest.

They don't want to send their children (or themselves) to war and they don't want to pay endlessly for nation building.

All was fine when it seemed (an illusion at best) the mission was accomplished (tm) however now that it is clear we have dug ourselves in to a deep hole with no exit in sight, well the natives get restless.

Will the DSM have legs?

I think it just might only because of the simmering discontent and fear amongst the sheeple.

It offers a scapegoat( Bush) so folks won't have to take personal responsibility for their own gullibility.

6. It also has a heart-beat and pulse! It's "alive"...and thousands of lives
(with families attached) are directly effected because of this fraud.

It is NOT going away! If the 9/11 Families persevered before to have hearings, you bet they will back down now...knowing for sure this was all a set-up. If I were them, I'd hang on like a pit bull to this one. And the families of all the soldiers who've died needlessly...

This is more than a scandal. It's a travesty!

8. it really makes no difference to the
majority of the american population. bush will serve out his term and retire to lead a comfortable life. he will be replaced by an even worse-but friendlier-christian zealot.at best it will take at least 15-20 years for the american people to wake up and regain a somewhat democratic and popular president that will try to restore the geo political/economic world position of the united states. at best we will become a second rate player on the world stage.

9. Yeah ...
It's got legs. Jacko or not, Bush's poll numbers are way down, Ohio's "Coingate" is coming to a boil, there are now three "memos" - all of which support each other, B & B have obviously lied about the contents in public, and the press IS beginning to take notice.

I think some journalists miss having some small degree of dignity and credibility. Some of them are probably quite angry at being drawn into the buildup for the "War On Terror In Iraq."

It seems to me that the administration has just plain worn out their welcome.

11. It's got legs
We got legs. MSNBC on-line had a frontpage story. Amazing. I would've never given them that much credit, esp. since LATimes and NYTimes didn't have anything on the frontpage this morning about the DSM (as far as their on-line papers go).

12. The Corporate Media told us
in the many discussions regarding Deep Throat, no media organization
is willing to bring down another president. Several Pundits stated this
clearly. The Washington Post went through some dpainful times
back then. They report things but do not get breathless, andx worked up.

This does not mean we should give upl we have to get word out through the country so when elections come around we can make changes.

MSM are so afraid of the Right--if one depends on them. you will die waiting.
