24. Thomas and Rhenquist were the justices in favor of medical marijuana
Yea, if I move to Tennesee I'll vote for Ford because no other serious Democrat is running and because it's another vote for the caucus. But issues like this are what pisses me off about empty suits like Ford.
Instead of voting like a Republican on this, why doesn't he take the issue and make it about small government. Why doesn't he argue that it's his Republican opponent who is for big government and he is the one who wants the government to get off of peoples' backs. We'd do a hell of a lot better in red states if we ran people with original ideas instead of lightweights like Harold Ford.

7. Ford is more liberal than most Dems in Tenn.
According to the Serria Club Harold Ford voted pro-environment 75% of the time in 2005. The League of Conservation Voters gave Ford a 91% in the 108th Congress. Out of 9 Tenn. US Congressman Harold Ford was the second best according to them.

8. I am personally getting tired
of everyone saying everyone that doesn't agree with them on every issue a Republican or a DINO. They also say if they disagree with Dean, they are bad. So let me get this straight: We are the party of free speech and divesity, yet we attack our own party members who disagree with us? I also find it wrong for people to compare others to Dean like he is the biggest lefty out there. Hell, Dean was one of the most conservative Governors in America while in office. He also got an A rating from the crazies at the NRA. Ford meanwhile got a 0!

So everyone, please stop attacking others in the party who you disagree with on an issue or two. Hell, I am sure we can dig up a vote, statement, ect. in which you would disagree with everyone on, so just be cool.

Frist isn't running again, just so you know.

HOWEVER, that means the Republican Party will probably just install another fundie nut.

So, in essence, you're still correct.

Ford is a damn sight better than most any fundie Pub (I like the Republican, Corker, but he won't win. He's too "librul" for the fundie party here).

However, I like Corker.

I'll still vote for Ford over Corker, but I'll be OK with the outcome it it's between those two.

That said, I don't think it will be Corker.

Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 12:30 AM by FreedomAngel82
Corker has the mayor thing down and everything. What has Hillaery done? He lost against Bredesen in the last governor election and against a democrat. So how do you think he's going to do against a republican like Corker who is liked by people on both sides of the isle? I'd rather have Corker then crazy Frist. At least we don't have to worry about Corker doing crazy shit like Frist with Terri Schavio. Corker is more serious (and he's very good).

14. Here's the thing
I could really give a damn if he just disagreed with Dean. HE MANIPULATED WHAT DEAN SAID!!!!! He should apologize for that. If he just disagreed fine. I could care less, but that's not the case with Ford. He was on Ed Schlutz totally getting everything Dean said WRONG! And no I won't be cool. I'm still not voting for him.

You don't know that do you? No. Kurita is still campaigning and so is Ford. So you don't know this unless you plan on rigging the votes in Ford's favor.

Where?

I'm not rigging any machines, duh. I'm just telling you that no one knows who she is. No one has heard of her. I hope she does well and raises good issues, but she's not known. She's not "campaigning" very much. In fact, I haven't heard of her except on DU, which means she's been absent over on this side of the state.

12. Oh, thank you for this!
He's waaaaayyyy more Dem than folks on this board think he is.

He's pretty pro-security (which is a "mexed message") but he has to be - he represents the "Volunteer" State, named as such because of all those who volunteer to be in the military.

Now... is he moving to the right. Yep. To get the votes. Hell, he's a politician. I won't deny that. Won't even aruge that point.

Do I want to vote for him - someone with whom I agree 90 percent of the time - or some fundie nut like Van Hilleary?

Umm... hmmm... I'm thinkin', hell yeah, I'm supportin' FORD!

I live in East Tennessee... home of the fundies. Corker isn't prized around these parts.

I don't see Corker winning.

If he does, good. But I won't vote for him.

You can vote for Kurita, fine, but she won't win the nomination. Hell, I only learned to spell her name yesterday.

Go for convictions, I'm not trying to talk you out of that. I'm just being realistic. But, please, don't bail because she didn't get the nom, OK?

here in Chattanooga. I think you're really underestimating him. He recently hired a guy from the SBVT team (ugh) so who knows how he'll do these next several months up until next year's election. I still think he'll come out and surprise everybody. Ford has too much baggage on him and with his votes turns off people.

MEMORANDUM

TO: (DELETED)

FROM: (DELETED)

RE: Tennessee survey results

Our Tennessee polling data finds Harold Ford, Jr. with a commanding lead in a

possible Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate nomination in 2006. The general election

race is wide open with no candidate holding a lead outside the margin of sampling error. In

short, Harold Ford, Jr. is the overwhelming choice of Tennessee Democrats to be their

nominee, and Ford is in a competitive position with all potential Republican opponents.

Primary Vote Performance

In a possible Democratic Senate primary, Harold Ford, Jr. leads Rosalind Kurita by

better than four-to-one, garnering 62% of likely democratic primary voters to Kurita's 15%.

Ford's advantage is not simply based on name recognition, as he leads by 70%-18% among

those who are familiar with Kurita.

Democratic Primary Vote Preference

If the Democratic primary was held today and the

candidates were Harold Ford, Jr. and Rosalind

Kurita, for whom would you vote?

Likely Voters

Harold Ford, Jr.............. 62%

Rosalind Kurita ............. 15

Undecided.................... 23

By contrast, the Republican nomination is shaping up as a dogfight with Ed Bryant

and Van Hilleary holding an advantage over Bob Corker. Bryant has the early lead with

35% of likely republican primary voters, Hilleary is strongly positioned with 26%, and

Corker lags behind with 15%.

Republican Primary Vote Preference

If the Republican primary was held today and the candidates

were Bob Corker, Ed Bryant, and Van Hilleary,

for whom would you vote?

Likely Voters

Ed Bryant .................... 35%

Van Hilleary ................. 26

Bob Corker................... 15

Undecided.................... 24

General Election Vote Performance

All three possible general election match-ups are at or within the margin of sampling

error. Harold Ford, Jr. leads Bob Corker 39% to 34%, right at the margin of sampling error.

Ford garners 38% of the vote in match-ups with both Bryant (40%) and Hilleary (41%) -

both within the margin of error.

General Election: Ford vs. Corker

If the 2006 general election for U.S. Senate were held today

and the candidates were Harold Ford, Jr. and

Bob Corker, for whom would you vote? If

you had to decide, which candidate would you lean towards

supporting?

Likely Voters

Harold Ford, Jr.............. 28%

(Lean Ford, Jr.)............. 11

Bob Corker................... 24

(Lean Corker) ............... 10

Undecided.................... 27

General Election: Ford vs. Hilleary

If the 2006 general election for U.S. Senate were held today

and the candidates were Harold Ford, Jr. and

Van Hilleary, for whom would you vote?

If you had to decide, which candidate would you lean

towards supporting?

Likely Voters

Harold Ford, Jr.............. 29%

(Lean Ford, Jr.)............. 9

Van Hilleary ................. 32

(Lean Hilleary).............. 9

Undecided.................... 20

General Election: Ford vs. Bryant

If the 2006 general election for U.S. Senate were held today

and the candidates were Harold Ford, Jr. and Ed

Bryant, for whom would you vote? If you

had to decide, which candidate would you lean towards

supporting?

Likely Voters

Harold Ford, Jr.............. 30%

(Lean Ford, Jr.)............. 8

Ed Bryant .................... 30

(Lean Bryant) ............... 10

Undecided.................... 22

Harold Ford, Jr. has consolidated support among Democrats, and potential

Republican candidates have the support of the majority of respondents who identify as

Republican. Regardless of which Republican is on the ballot, more independent respondents

are undecided than favor any one candidate. As this and the overall level of support

without leaners shows, the 2006 Senate race is at a very early stage. But even at this

stage, it is clear that Harold Ford, Jr. is in a strong position to win this U.S. Senate seat.

The survey shows clear evidence that Tennessee voters are more interested in

electing a Senator who will do what is best for the state than simply someone who will

automatically support Bush administration proposals, thus furthering the case that Ford is

well-positioned for the U.S. Senate contest. Likewise, voters' top three policy concerns

(health care, jobs, education) are issues on which Ford's record is superior to that of any of

the prospective Republican nominees.

TECHNICAL NOTE: This memorandum summarizes results from a telephone poll of a randomly selected

sample of 600 registered voters in the state of Tennessee who say they definitely or probably will vote in the 2006

November general election. Interviewing was conducted March 22nd through March 24th, 2005. The sample for the

survey was selected in a manner to insure that every household in the state of Tennessee with a working telephone

was equally likely to be included in the sample. Special care was taken to insure that the geographic and

demographic divisions of the actual electorate are properly represented in the sample. The estimation error

associated with a sample of 600 is 4.0 percent at the 95% confidence interval. This means that in 95 of 100 cases,

the results of this poll are within 4.0 points, plus or minus, of the results that would have been obtained if all

probable voters in the state of Tennessee had been interviewed.
