At the core of our Iraq problems: Bush Doctrine |
|
Let's not forget that the administration lied us into war because the groundwork was laid in creating the Bush Doctrine (from Wikipedia):
The salient elements of the Bush Doctrine may be summarized as:
Preemption
A policy of pre-emptive war, should the US or its allies be threatened by terrorists or by rogue states that are engaged in the production of weapons of mass destruction.
The right of self-defence should be extended in order to authorise pre-emptive attacks against potential aggresors cutting them off before they are able to launch strikes against the US. In the case of Iraq, American military action was preventive rather than pre-emptive.
Unilateralism
The right of the US to pursue unilateral military action when acceptable multi-lateral solutions cannot be found.
There was a lot wrong with the Bush Doctrine...should never have been accepted. The Bush Doctrine relies on omniscient, perfect intelligence that of course does not ever exist. Let's not let the Bush Doctrine off the hook...this was the beginning of our problems as it created an opening to manipulate intelligence.

1. Also current Iraq problem |
|
This administration never wanted an international, cooperative effort in Iraq because the whole point of the Bush Doctrine is to reshape ME politics along with American expansion and supremacy. We won't be seen as THE ultimate super duper super power if we're getting help from the UN.
End the Bush Doctrine. Everything is tied to that.

3. pre-emptive war has that element of risk |
|
That what you went to pre-empt wasn't there and then can't be faked. This happened right out of the box to bush. It's actually worse, since this war can't be stopped now that he started it.
